Mcann's Imported Quick Easy Steel Cut Irish Oatmeal has a hearty texture and a nutty taste. Unlike the softer rolled oats, which have been steamed and pressed, steel-cut oats are made with chopped oat kernels. A healthy and delicious option in oatmeal, cookies, porridge, muffins, and bread. Steel cut oats absorb less liquid when cooking and retain a firmer texture and nutty taste. Made with chopped oat kernels unlike rolled oats that are steamed, pressed, and become mushy after cooking. Not sure if it's McCann's
I've been buying McCann's long cooking and short cooking steel cut oats for years. One thing that I know about the packaging is that the short cooking oats has a black plastic lid and a silver inner seal. (You can clearly see both in the picture). These oats came with a clear lid and no inner seal. Not even taking a chance at eating these oats. I just threw them out.

Not the usual product.
After months of receiving this oatmeal in the packaging with the foil seal and black plastic lid, I found it was no longer available. I figured this slightly different packaging would contain the same product and I ordered four of them. I thought I was getting sick or something because this didn't taste the same and had a chemical after taste. I'm glad to see other reviewers had the same experience and that it's not just me. Now I guess I'm stuck with these, but I'm not going to eat any more of it. McCann's Steel Cut oatmeal has been my breakfast for more than three years. I add frozen blueberries and walnuts, but even those could not overcome the chemical taste. I hope I can find the vendor who provided the oatmeal I love. The above product even smells different. Must be old or something although the Best by date was June 21, 2021.Update: I found the product in the packaging I've always received prior to this order. I ordered it, tried it, and it is the same quality I expected.

NOT Good and NOT the Same (of course) as the Traditional Slow-Cook
Instant oats done wrong. I followed the instructions precisely. I put the one serving dry amount in the largest bowl we have (a deep large salad bowl), which I have used for other instant oatmeal and grits, etc. But it did not just boil over a little, it practically emptied itself. So, I put another properly measured amount with the appropriate amount of water in a mixing bowl and tried again. It was entirely unremarkable and not really fully cooked, again following the instructions exactly. So, Mcann's has tried to tap into the instant market - the 5 minute market, I guess - and IMHO have failed miserably. I will go with Quaker Oats when in a rush and save my Mcann's original Steel-Cut Irish Oatmeal for the weekends. Too bad.

Stale odor upon opening cannister
Upon opening the cardboard canister of McCann’s Quick & Easy Steel Cut oats a stale odor was noticed. Just received it on 1/3/2021 (yesterday) and the Best Used by date is 4/9/2021. Microwaved as instructed but the taste wasn’t great. Needless to say I expected better from this brand.

Very very nasty and not MCains
This was definitely not McCains. It was a different texture and had a very strong chemical taste. I have been eating MCains for years and this is definitely not MCains oatmeal. I regret having eating any of it. Terrible aftertaste and concerning what is was.

Flavor
Used to buy Mccanns Steel Cut oats and loved it. Now the taste is totally different. I wonder if it has been stored in a hot warehouse? Totally different taste. I cannot finish eating the one that I opened and will certainly not open the second container. Very disappointed. This used to be a very good product and it is sad that it is not anymore.

Rancid!
Mine was rancid when it arrived. And I ordered 2 of them! I had to throw it out. Waste of money.
