Most important high quality black dye stain
Mohawk manufacturers some of the finest dye stains on the market. Jet black is an extremely important die stain to have in order to mix custom colors to match antique pieces. It's also great for coming up with the proper collar for modern pieces of furniture. It does take some knowledge and time to learn how to properly tint your die stains in order to get a perfect blend. But once this knowledge has been learned you can do great things in matching furniture stains. A perfect color match is imperative in restoration work of antiques. There's a lot more to restoration work than just die stains but you have to start with good products in order to process and create the perfect restoration. Mohawk manufactures almost everything needed to do this type of work. It's a little pricey compared to other brands but you can't go wrong by using this brand of products.

Love this product!
This was my first time using this type of stain. I purchased it after reading recommendations on several woodworking sites. The stain worked exactly as the woodworking sites said it would. It penetrates deep into the wood, dries fast and cleans up with soap and water.Caution for those who have never used an alcohol stain: This is VERY thin - thinner than water. I used a sponge brush to apply it. The color was a little uneven (due to my inexperience) so I went over it lightly with a staining pad. Follow the instructions for drying time. Additional coats aren’t required unless you want to darken the color. Practice on a scrap piece of wood to get used to the thin consistency and make sure you like the color.

Versatile wood stain
This is a non-grain raising (NGR) wood stain. It is jet black and perfect for "ebonizing" wood. You can use it different ways, but one that is sometimes overlooked is to mix it with clear nitrocellulose lacquer and use it as a toner. For example, seal the wood with a vinyl sealer. Mix a very small amount of the NGR stain into clear lacquer and spray that onto the wood until the wood is black, but the grain and a hint of the light colored wood still shows through. This method works especially well on woods like pine that turn blotchy with a conventional penetrating wood stain. My only complaint is that once I opened the bottle, the lid would not seal and the stain leaked out. I put a garden hose washer under the cap and that sealed it.

Deep penetrating color.
Used this on ash. Took two coats to fully and evenly cover. Very quick drying (probably acetone based).Great color, true to label. Should look great with spray lacquer topcoats.

True Jet Black
I used this Jet Black on some open grain Oak stair nosing to make an ebonized appearance. I applied several coats just to make sure it was deep into the wood and it worked fantastic. After 5 clear coats of Varathane it was ready to install. Be prepared with a well covered protected work area as even a tiny flick of the brush will spray black dye on the wall or floor. As a woodworker in addition to this premixed dye I would like to also see a generous bag of dry powder to mix as I need for larger projects.
