Dragon’s Lair Trilogy Switch Game feels nostalgic
Daughter loves it, and I was finally able to play it without losing so many quarters!

Brings back the nostalgia
I used to have this many many years ago on the amiga and played it as a young child. This brings back memories! The differences I noticed (I believe- as it has been a long time) is the scenes seem random. In the older version you would play the same sequence every time. I kind of like that. Also this has a mode that shows you what the directions are to push. I got the digital version for $19.99.

Classic, aged gameplay
Game includes: Dragon's Lair, Dragon's Lair 2: Time Warp, and Space Ace.Very innovative game back in the day, but the game didn't age well, especially the first Dragon's lair with repeat stages.Game is basically a series of western animation-style graphics with Quick Time Events (QTE) if you played console setting where you have to match the inputs on screen like a "Simon's says" game to progress the story. In arcades it's a series of flashes or nothing at all (trail and error) and you have to determine what button to press depending on where the object light up or what's happening.Button variety are the 4 directional buttons(up, down, left, right) and a sword/attack buttonIn arcades back in the day it was a coin sucker as with the first game it doesn't tell you what button to press, and you only know to press it the next time due to a game over screen. You only get 3 lives and it was 50cents per play in arcadesDragon's Lair 2 and Space Ace has more fluid story compared to Original Dragon's lair which have to do go through similar cutscenes multiple times. There are highlighted areas/objects every scenario this time around, but in Dargon's Lair 2 you must collect items along the way or at certain point of the game it wont' let you proceed, which is another way for the arcades to take your quartersGame is a real stickler on pressing buttons at right time with little margin of error. Time to react is fast and if you press the wrong button it register it as the wrong input making you lose a life.Used to play Dragon's lair part 2 in arcades when i was a kid. Didn't lose tons of quarters like the other kids. Remember spending hours watching people play during spring break at the arcades, taking down notes of QTE sequences before actually playing myself. Had a friend read out the commands as the time to react is too fast to glance at paper then input the movements (unless you don't want to see how story plays out). After beating the game several times; made photo copies and sold the steps to beat the game to other kids, so in the end made profitNow back to the review:--Options:Able to play arcade (flashing animations) or console (button displayed on screen) mode.Arcade cabinet displayAble to set amount of lives--Extras:Dragon's Lair: Interview and watch featureDragon's Lair 2 - interview, watch feature and pirate animation (hand sketched concept art)Space Ace: Watch featureGood nostalgia trip, but not worth a buy unless you really want to beat the game with unlimited lives. If you want to watch the story, pretty sure you can watch it on Youtube

$20 on Nintendo eShop
This same game trilogy is available for $20 on the Nintendo eShop. Don't waste your money just for a physical cartridge and case unless that's what you really want. I purchased the digital copy.
