Dell Inspiron 3847 Desktop with Flagship Specs (Windows 7 Professional, Intel Quad Core i7-4790 up to 4.0GHz 8MB Cache, 16GB DDR3 RAM, 2TB HDD, DVD Drive, Bluetooth)

As soon as I received this in the mail I opened it up and tried to install my GeForce 960 card and booted it up. Screen said I needed to plug a PCI connector to the card. So I looked and of course the PSU didn't have any extra connectors for expansion. So I bought a new PSU at frys electronics and stalled it. Then it wouldn't power on at all. So I just took everything to frys version of geek squad and they just called me to tell me that the PSU that I bought from them isn't working and the hard drive is either dead or about to die. I then asked frys for a refund of my money on the PSU and their labor in figuring out they sold me a bad PSU and they said no so I am escalating to a manager at the moment. Depending on how they respond I may need to teach them what the DTPA law is in Texas and show them my bar card. We will see.Also this seller claims this unit is great for expansion. I don't see it. All two ram slots were taken and no additional connectors on the PSU. So what can you upgrade to with the exception of a bigger/better hard drive or a different cd drive? Well if your unit is like me then you will be forced to upgrade your hard drive because the one that ships is no good. I had already bought a SSD to install right off the bat so no harm no foul with me but geez come on have some ethics. This shouldn't be advertised as "big on expansion". That's obviously why I bought it. But alas you live and learn. Hope this is helpful. Btw this is my first review on Amazon to my knowledge and I have been a member for almost a decade. That should tell you something.

The description of the brand new unopened 2015 Dell 3847 with Windows 7 sounded terrific and exciting. However, the contents in the box remain a mystery. The entire experience was poor.There was no packing slip. The packing slip was removed from the plastic slot that usually holds it on the outside of the box. Inside the box, there were no manuals, warranty, registration packet, guide books, or directions . There were no markings or identifiers on the computer or box. it did have a windows 8. disk in the box but no windows 7. Even though I could up grade to Windows 10, I wanted Window 7 as the base program.The box did have a keyboard and mouse.The computer did not boot. I could not tell what options were on the device.I went on line to re-check the options and noticed the price dropped approximately $60. to $806. Since there was no invoice in the box, I would not have known of the price cut.The box arrived at 2 pm and by 6 pm , it was re-packed and ready to be returned.I never have experienced issues like these from Amazon in the past. I don't know if the problems lie with Dell or AmazonThe agent had gone ahead to send me a replacement for the same exact model. A significant amount of hours has gone into trying to getting this work....but this is the third one being returned for the same reasons. I'll check out the Labor Day sale at Best Buy to check out the models. I must say the telephone staff at Amazon have all been very helpful , one agent offered me an additional 20% off for the hassle of needing to return the item twice. Maybe I'll be lucky on three.

Great computer, very fast & can handle anything I throw at it. This i7 machine replaced an AMD Phenom II x4 810 (that finally died after 6 years of daily abuse...lol), & I was shocked at the difference performance-wise between the 2 pc's...I use this computer for my internet routine, but I also use it as a home-recording daw. On my old AMD, I would have to do everything possible to conserve CPU, but this Dell i7 absolutely smokes the AMD. My music projects would sometimes jack the CPU up to 50-60% (lots of audio tracks, vst plug-ins, & cpu/ram heavy vsti's), but on this pc, those same projects run around 5-6%, which is astonishing to me. Very quiet too, as noise can be an issue when recording...I use Windows 7 Pro (which came installed), & have no intentions of going to Windows 8 or 10. A Windows 8 recovery disc came with this pc, so I made my own recovery disc of Windows 7...This was basically the pc I wanted when I bought the AMD, & I'd always wondered what the difference in performance would be, but now I know. There's really no comparison, the Dell i7-based pc smokes the old AMD (of course), & I'm very, very happy with this computer...Highly recommended!!!

I recalled that one of my "main" PC magazines had rated Amazon as the top and most reliable suppliers of Personal Computers, peripherals and PC supplies a couple of years ago. I bore this in mind when it came time to replace my ageing PC and was not disappointed in the selection and pricing of Desktops, Laptops and so on. I placed my order. The PC was delivered in pristine condition and as promised. My only disappointment developed from the lack of documentation for my new PC as delivered. Although I have been active in PC computing since the year 2000 this was my first Dell Product. As soon as I was on line I entered "Dell Inspiron 3847 Manual," and was directed to the Dell website where I was able todownload and print a 55-page Owner's Manual, a two-page "quick-start" guide and a 15-page "Views and Specifications" printout. Further, I entered the Dell Website page into Internet Explorer's "Favorites" for quick reference in the event I needed information which might not be contained in the voluminous information already on-hand. The Inspiron 3847 is a dream and I could not be happier.

i think it is a good deal for what you get vs price. the audio plugins in the back do not seem to work or at least I could not get them to work with my walmart speakers. also I am not sure if the usb 3.0 actually works i plug my nikon camera in to download pics from it and the computer is always telling me to use the usb 3.0 ports. i tried the cable on all the usb ports and get the same message on all of them. to be clear i can still download the pics using any of the usb ports so they do work but i am not sure if they are actually using the 3.0 stuff which is suposed to be faster
