Great Shelving
As with other reviews, would have been a 5-star rating except for the instructions. Had I not had experience assembling similar cabinetry, I would never have been able to figure this out. Just two sentences explaining the two parts in the attached picture would have done wonders. I finally figured out how to insert and tighten the Three-in-One Connector (brass color) by noticing the screwdriver notches at the top which, when tightened, serves to secure that piece in the wood once inserted and tightened. The arrow on the face of the silver nut when inserted into its hole in the wood, needs to point in the direction of the end of the brass piece when the parts are assembled. When the silver nut is tightened, it wraps around the head of the brass piece and locks the wood pieces in place ( a little past a quarter turn that the instructions indicate).Assembled the first set of shelves in 3 hours and the second one in less than an hour.Ups--Melamine finish as opposed to contact paper. Very scratch resistant. Has a solid board for the back, not cardboard. Much sturdier than other furniture in this class. Wood pieces and shelves are much thicker and that most units I have assembled. The shelves have grooves where they sit on the shelf pegs, securing the shelves in place. Has great screw in feet for leveling and sliding. Over all, very sturdy and handsome when finished. Yes, it only takes a philips head (star-shaped) screwdriver to assemble.Downs--the instructions have no wording and are extremely fine print. Once you get started and figure out how to secure pieces 1 and 2, the rest is pretty intuitive when you follow the steps in the assembly illustrationsI would buy this again!

Updated Review
This is an update to my original review: Okay...so maybe I am an amateur. After my review, the mfg reached out to me (which I was totally surprised and do appreciate). Apparently the locking mechanisms work differently with this product. So, I followed the additional instructions that they provided, when building the second bookshelf (instead of returning it, which I didn't look forward to taking this very heavy box to the drop off). The second shelf went together beautifully and looks 3 times better than the first bookshelf. The instructions that they sent were NOT listed in the original instructions. Just incase you are like me and could not figure out how to put it together, let me make this easy. You have to use a screw driver to screw in the long part of the mechanism which expands it so that it stays in the hole. Who knew! Had this been included in the instructions, my first bookshelf would look just as good as the second one. I only gave it 4 stars because I definitely can't take the first one apart and rebuild it because of all the glue and screws that I put into it. And I definitely blame this on the mfg and not on my stupidity simply because they forgot to put this in the instructions. First Review: This was absolutely the worst item that I have ever purchased from Amazon. I bought 2 of these bookshelves. I opened the first one, laid out all the parts and started the assembly. I have put together a lot of pre-fab products that have the locking mechanisms to attach the pieces together so I'm not an amateur. The holes that the "screws" fit into were way too big, so even after you locked the pieces together, they just fell apart. So after much gluing and screwing, yes, I had to put long screws into the pieces to hold them together and use E6000 adhesive, the shelf is finally completed. The finished product doesn't look bad and I think it will work for my purpose, but I am returning the second shelf. It's not worth the hassle trying to make it work. When you pay this much for something, it should be as described. I would definitely not recommend this product. I'm very disappointed that Amazon would allow this to be sold on their site. Do not waste your money and time on this bookshelf!

Pretty good material, connections a little meh
The material it's made of is a mix between particle and OSB board, so it's quite dense and sturdy (obviously not solid oak but still very well manufactured). No board deformation in shipping and no pieces missing. The color and finish is good, simple veneered sides but smooth and rounded well. A nice grey color is a little harder to find than I thought. Size is great for what I needed. Now onto the build...For starters, some instructions are using the wrong diagrams or calling out wrong holes, it's not a complex build so it isn't too hard to figure out (only like 2 types of fasteners). Let me get to the point, the two sides are not actually screwed in or truly connected at all, it's basically pinned. This means that they are VERY prone to just falling out. It also makes it incredibly hard to move the thing as it like moving two slats flat handed and holding them parallel across a wide gap. Really dumb to not have true screws or some type of labyrinth connection. I had to drill in two screws to the middle and bottom shelves (the main connection ones to the sides) and now I have no worries. And finally, the backing. For one, it is skinny and flimsy. It was nigh impossible for me to get it in it's slot by myself (as the sides were not really connected together and would constantly fall out). The middle would bow due to its little cheap plastic holder between the two slats. And once I finally did get it in for the most part, I found out it was actually a little too long so I had to shave it down so the top could attach. All in all, it is a nice looking bookshelf made with decently sturdy materials and feels nice. Haven't had any bowing yet and I put some fairly heavy books on it. I try not to stack up my giant hardcover books in the middle as a precaution no matter what bookshelf I put them to. I would recommend having two people to build just to hold some stuff in place.

Quality Product Exceeds Reasonable Price Point
Although this item was "assembly required" it took a reasonable amount of time and resulted in a quality product for its price point.........recommended !!

Solid Bookcase with Challenging Assembly
I like this bookcase, second one I got from manufacture. Heavy duty and came in good order. The assembly is tricky and need to see a video from them to understand how it works. Once you get that, piece of cake. Better than other ones and good bang for your buck....just know you may need to see how the screws work - not regular kind.

Great bookcase Bad delivery
Best price for a bookcase this good quality. Love it after we built it. But the delivery was not so pleasant. First it was delayed then it went to a warehouse without trying to delivery to my house like all other Amazon Prime purchases. We had to find a proper vehicle and go get the bookcase and haul it back home. Never happened to me before, and I have been a Prime member for a couple of years now.

Great shelf! (IMPORTANT INFO ON SCREWS)
This is a very good shelf. The boards are sturdy and the color/pattern is very pleasing. I got 2x5 tier shelves and there was no damage. The materials were well packed and labeled. Very easy to put together!***There's one important aspect of assembling this shelf, the cam screws:The cam screws they use are different than the others. Once slide in, you must screw it to allow the end to expand into the board. This is NOT written in the instructions booklet. I originally gave this shelf a 2 star due to the missing instruction. Unlike the regular cam screws where the holes are smaller than the screws themselves, so the end secures itself when you screw it into the hole, the included cam screws simply sit into the hole until you screw to expand the bottom part. I was too used to the regular way and assumed the holes were drilled too big and gave it a negative review. It did not occur to me to check the original listing for the instruction. The seller kindly pointed out my mistake and now it does its job well! They also promised to add the instruction in the booklet in the future. This is just a heads up for everyone else trying to put this together and potentially having a hard time.
