Source of all Power
Duncurin has been running up this power reel courtesy of Vine and Brennenstuhl. As befits its German origins it is a substantial and well thought out reel. It is wound with a quality cable, with a nice tactile feel, which will extend to 15m and is also pretty robust, so I’m guessing it will take the rough and tumble of repeated DIY and professional use in its stride. The spec says that it is for indoor use but I found it was perfect for plugging in power tools, where I need them – usually in the middle of the garage and the three socket approach means for instance I can run my router, my mitre saw and still provide extraction without resorting to adapters and multiple reels and other horrors that are guaranteed to bite the user some day. Please note also that the reel is fitted with standard 13A British plugs and sockets and is meant for 240v use not the 110v that many building sites use. There is also a thermal cut-out and I presume this, a bit like my mower, trips when the current drawn is too high. I’m thinking that this is most definitely not the same thing as an RCD device that protects the user from say a cut live wire or a bucket of water falling on live wires. For this reason, I would advise, even if your house has them fitted as most homes do these days, a plug-in RCD device as well as they are cheap enough and it’s better to be safe than sorry.Although I have used the term reel it is not one of those that you can set on the floor and then pull the wire out as far as it needs to go and also there is no handle to wind it back in when you are finished. The cable must be wound back onto the reel manually when you are finished and this is easy enough. The reel is made from robust and quality plastics which should stand the test of time. The two handle cutouts are on the same side of the reel and I think better would have been one at the top and one on the opposite side as this helps with getting your grip right when you are winding the cable back in.There are also spring-loaded flaps that cover the three sockets and protect the same when not in use. I think modern 13a sockets have fairly effective shuttering built in and I am worried that the flaps will be easily damaged and also you need two hands to plug an appliance or a tool in – one to raise the flap and one to push in the plug. I think it would either be better to remove these flaps altogether or have sliding flaps that run flush with the upper surface of the reel and can be slid open to give access to the socket.Although the reel contains 15m of cable it will be sufficient for most jobs in most people’s houses. Re-winding it is quite easy but if you’ve been outside and the cable is dirty it would be easier and quicker to have a wind-up reel and I think this would for most people, perhaps buying just the one, be a better choice. Other than that, this reel will do for most jobs that most folk are going to need it for. Many thanks.Photo shows power fed to router and extraction both plugged in to the cable reel.

50 m passen gut drauf
50 m Ladekabel passen gut drauf. Ansonsten alles ok.
