Great absorbent rug.
I'll preface that I live in the Pacific NW, it rains all winter here, and our yard is pretty much mud. This rug is great for absorbing everything my dogs' muddy paws can offer and the large size ensures human feet and animal paws all have enough space to dry off when we come in the door. My trick is to have the dogs come in and then sit on the rug while I give them a treat; this sitting time lets the backs of their legs and their butts get dried off (our dogs have fluffy pants). The dogs also love sleeping on the rug; it's soft and plush. I wasn't crazy about the bone design, as I don't understand why animal home products/decor must have animal-themed prints/designs on them, but I've grown used to it and don't mind it considering the rug does a good job helping to keep my floors clean.I've owned this rug for a little over a month and only saw it shed a little the first day or two it was down. The shedding only came from the white bone design. The rug can move around some if your dogs wrestle on it or if you accidentally shuffle into it. The backing is rubbery to kind of help the rug stay in place, but I was legitimately thinking of adhesing or velcroing it to the floor (we have wood floors that need to be refinished). The rug is heavy though, so it's own weight does help keep the rug mostly in place.I've shaken the rug outside to clean off any debris and amazingly that works really well. I have not tried vacuuming it, but have not found a need as the shaking off works so well. I've owned many rugs that had to be vacuumed or washed to get cleaned off, and this is not one of them. I even have the dark brown color and there isn't any leftover debris/dog hair/etc. that sticks to make the rug look bad.I do believe that washing is necessary though to clean out the absorbing fibers. After a month of use, I'm finding the absorbency has gone down and when my dogs step off the rug there are wet footprints being left on the floor, which had previously been taken care of by the rug.I'll report back once I've washed it to update how it holds up in the wash.UPDATE: The rug has been washed many times without further shedding or general deterioration. The white bone pattern is now kind of speckled dalmation style as the white fibers and brown fibers have intermingled with wear and washing. I still like the rug and don't feel it detracts. The rug does not seem to absorb as well as it did with its first use. It is still absorbent, but I do need to wash more frequently now to get the fibers cleaned and regain that absorbency again. Initially I got away with not washing for a month, and now weekly or bi-weekly washings would be better.

Good Looking, Washable Rug
This is a great rug. It's big enough to serve as our main rug in the living room, which gives our dog some traction when we want to play tug and such (our hardwood floors are too slippery for our pup who has hip dysplasia).Style-wise, while it's no Crate and Barrel rug, it is surprisingly elegant looking. It's got its own grip-back, so you don't need a separate under mat. Which is super handy. The best part is that it's machine washable. If it gets dirty or the dog has an accident (it's going to happen when you adopt a rescue or get a puppy), we just toss it in the wash and we're done.PROS:- Good looking: the beige color makes it very versatile. Though, note that it has a big red bone pattern on it! So it's a giveaway that we are a dog family.- The Faux-Shag microfiber gives it a real retro-chic look.- Self-gripping. Don't need a rug-mat underneath it.- Provides traction for my dog when we play tug, or if she wants to hop on the couch.- Machine washable. Can't say that enough. If you've had to clean up doggy-accidents on a non-washable rug, you know what I mean.CONS:- It's still just a fabric rug, so you're not going to have the firmness of a heavy, thick wool rug - sometimes the edges flip up, and you do need to straighten it every once in awhile. For me, that's not a problem, but I did want to note it.- Takes a long time to dry: it's microfiber, so it holds a lot of water. After you've run it through the wash, make sure you set it to run in the dryer for a good long time. I run the dryer on the towel setting, and it's fine. But if you're running it on medium for 45 minutes, it will still be quite damp.Overall: fantastic rug if you have dogs. I liked it so much, I also got the doormat for the front and back doors, and the slobber mat to put under the water bowl (our dog's a splashy drinker...)

Works as advertised, washable, but could do without the bone design
I've put it through the wash a couple times, the first time the white part of the bone design seems to have detached from the rug. I think this is fine, and would be ok with just having the normal part of the rug, which has stayed attached.Absorbent and durable enough, exactly what I wanted

A must have for anyone with a dog
Awesome dog mat. My dog lays on it and it picks up more dirt than i realized my dog was tracking in.

Muddy paws rescue at last!
Really pleased with this as it has finally solved the problem we have with muddy paws and our boggy lawn when it rains a lot. Luckily our Bearded Collie puppy did not choose to pull the threads out from the bone design as someone else has found, (although she did investigate this feature at first so I think that it would be better if a plain design was more easily available if you are concerned about this- they are more expensive and harder to obtain from what I could see?) and often sleeps on it rather then in her bed! Although we find the dirt-catcher type rugs and mats are very good, this is better just inside the kitchen door as so absorbant and looks really nice too. It also catches a vast amount of garden detritus/ dust etc as I have found when shaking it out so is very effective for dry dirt as well as wet. It also washes well and dries very quickly on low heat (as recommended to keep the fibres absorbant) but hardly needs this as it air dries very quickly anyway. We have now bought a second one as a spare and to take on holiday.
