The print and paper quality are first class.There is a fair mount of text for those (myself included) interested in the color tinting technologies of the time, but most of the book is page after page of truly stunning color and creativity. I am a digital artist and animator with more than 30 years of experience, and I find the material presented here to be very unique and addictive to look at and into. Get this book, you won't be disappointed!

Absolutely gorgeous book and a beautiful preservation of a subject few seem to have interest in.I hope the team behind this puts out more products. The film clips used as advertisements for this book would be great to own as well, especially since it seems many of them aren't available to view anywhere else.

I have yet to visit every page in this world of fancy and fay as it is remarkably dense with the most inspiring imagery and text depicting the very interesting history of early cinema. Thank you to the Author: Jonathon Rosen and the Editors: Tom Gunning, Joshua Yumibe and Giovanna Fossati, for this phenomenally rich compilation. It's a book with pure, raw, explosive artistry in all its glory. Bravo!

This is one of my favorite books in my collection, and it is my favorite "coffee table book/art book". This is such a beautiful made book full of frames from the silent era. Such an inspiring book full of films from the past. Many people are not away of early color cinema and this book does a great job at showing just how beautiful it was. I could look at this book for hours on end and not be bored. I would recommend this book to anyone who has an interest in film and film history or to anyone who collects art books!

What can I say except that this is The Book of the Year. Phenomenal. Spellbinding. Haunting. Enchanting. The BEST.

Si te gusta el cine de color de los inicios este libro es recomendable tenerlo. Está en inglés, pero es fácil de entender. Te explican un poco la historia del cine y las técnicas que tenían para colorear. La mejor parte son los fotogramas de distintas películas en tamaño enorme.Merece su precio.

This is the most beautiful book I own! Every page is a masterpiece of colour. Absolutely mesmerizing. I was first attracted to this book for the writing by Tom Gunning who is a very insightful academic scholar, especially in the area of early cinema. The four articles included in the book (including Gunning's) are well written, and present informative historical analysis of the technical and artistic approaches to colour which was added to black and white film at the beginning of the 20th century. These essays, while intelligently presented, are directed at laymen rather than academics, making this book not only visually appealing, but accessible to most readers.
