Sheer pleasure to read
Mystery and murder with genealogy research woven throughout, what's not to like? Protagonist Callie has opened up shop as an investigator, eager to help people learn more about their ancestors. Questionable deaths lead to interesting suspects and plenty of family skeletons. Nicely plotted with a satisfying conclusion and some twists to keep the sharpest mystery reader guessing.

This is a Charming mystery!
I used PAST & PRESENT to read for relaxation and escape. The characters are well drawn and the story is wonderful. I could not resist the writing about the past and the protagonist's family. Family ties here are compelling as are ties of friendship. I will probably re-read it because I enjoyed it so much. Oh, and there is a touch of the supernatural too which makes it that much more fun!

Mystery and History
Intriguing and well-written mystery. I enjoyed the mystery, the history, and the twists and turns that took me from the past to the present!

SO-SO
What a disappointment! Definitely NOT a stand alone read. Hints of what occurred in the first book & then, to add insult to injury, a cliff hanger. No Thanks! I feel “played”.

A delightful blend of the cerebral, the psychic, and good ol’ down-to-earth sleuthing!
Thirteen months after inheriting her father’s home with the strange caveat that she solve her mother’s thirty year old cold-case murder, Calamity “Callie” Barnstable has decided to put down roots in Marketville. Case finally solved, Callie’s quit her banking job in Toronto, leased her cozy condo to a former co-worker, hired her hunky new next door neighbor to renovate her unkempt inherited domicile, and—spurred on by the success of her first case—she’s opened her own PI business: Past & Present Investigations. As the name suggests, P&P’s specialty will be solving not only present-day cases, but also cold cases from the past that have been shelved and largely forgotten. With plans to sell her refurbished inherited house, Callie sets up shop in a Victorian home/office located in a posh Marketville neighborhood. Chantelle Marchand, Callie’s best friend and avid genealogist, signs on as partner in P&P Investigations. To round out the team, two other friends, a psychic and an antique shopkeeper come aboard as consultants. As luck (or fate?) would have it, P&P’s first case is eerily similar to the personal one Callie has recently solved. A woman is seeking clues to find out who might have murdered her great-grandmother—and why. Callie digs in, honing the newly acquired investigative skills she learned while revealing her mother’s murderer. Meanwhile, Chantelle scours passenger lists from ships of the early twentieth century, as well as newspaper accounts of the time and other documents that hold promise in uncovering needed evidence. The discovery of a couple of old faded photographs might also hold the key to help unlock this decades’ old mystery. There are plenty of feints, dead-ends, and red herrings throughout to keep the reader guessing while turning pages. Past & Present: A Marketville Mystery is a delightful blend of the cerebral, the psychic, and good ol’ down-to-earth sleuthing. The interesting cast of interactive characters and satisfying conclusion will leave the reader wanting to revisit Marketville time and again.(I received an ARC from the author for my unbiased review.)

A Terrific Book and Series!
Don’t miss this one. Sometimes a new series strikes you right from page one. So it is with the Marketville Mystery Series. Past and Present is an entertaining series with wonderful (and sometimes strange) characters, set in a small town. Add in a potential love interest, a mystery tied to an old dilapidated house (first book), and a new private investigation firm (book 2), and you have the makings of a lasting series series ahead. The first client for Past and Present is to learn more about the client’s grandmother and how she dies. Long past, it would seem a harmless case, but oft times threads from the past remain tied to the present. With novel ideas that require investigation the author takes us on a journey into the past with little clues and connections that most would overlook. It’s so appealing that I can’t wait for book three. You can find my full review at Mystery Suspense Reviews.

Past Meet Present
It’s been just over a year since Callie inherited the Marketville house from her father. She is ready to give up the house but decides to stay in Marketville and open up her own business with a few of her new friends. Thus Past and Present Investigations is born, and this is not your average P.I. firm. They quickly get their first client, a lady who wants to know what happened to her Grandmother. You will not believe how the past connects the present. After finishing book one I could not wait to read this book. This book did not disappoint. It was just as good as the first one with plenty of twists and turns to take you on a wonderful mysterious ride. The characters are real with quirky personalities. I love how the group of women come together and use each person's strength to solve the mystery. The plot is well developed and the story moves along at a quick pace. This story is full of suspense and humor. I can not wait to read the next book in the series.I listened to the audio version of this book the narrator Claira Jordyn does a wonderful job with her voice acting. Even with the story being told from Callie’s POV Jordyn does a great job voicing each character. She helps bring the story to life.I received a copy of this book at my request, and I have voluntarily left this review. All thoughts and opinions are my own and in no way have been influenced.
