I love Bea Arthur
What a clever and controversial series for its time. A spin off of All in the Family, this series does not disappoint!

Shout! does it again! You.. Look.. Mahvelous!
I was a kid when this show aired, I remember how much Worse the make-it-cheap-dammit 30min sitcoms looked, shot (inexcusably) on Sony videotape as throw-aways - there wasn't even cable TV when they made the decision, syndication was Daytime TV, and who-cares-about-them?I also had the misfortune of having to work with these 'masters' years later, what a disgusting, interlaced, train-wreck.I dunno how Shout! does it, but the picture here is FanTasTic given how the TV studio/owners treated this material. If you expect Anything, you obviously weren't there. If you wanted to see the shows enough to have purchased the Sony single season, you know that applying Minimum Effort resulted in Minimum Product, i.e., the Sony version (Mill Creak) is eye-blurringly unwatchable.. and gasp- Still Interlaced. It is the definition of Sony's Painfuly and Famously lame efforts on the DVD front.Enter a corrected-beyond-what-we-thought-possible rendition from Shout!. I state here, for the record: If Shout! releases most anything that the (bleah! ARrgh) studios/owners have been Sitting On for Decades, I'll be in line to buy it. It can not be high def, but they at least have a Firm understanding of what it takes to make them Watchable. If you grew up on DVDs or better, you will probably wonder how us old folks ever watched TV period. If you have survived VHS-days, you will be Impressed with this collection (and Shout!'s others, notably WKRP).I won't go into how this show was the definitive alter-ego to All in the Family, far-left personalities need not apply as this made fun of them like AitF made fun of the right, informative and enjoyable, whether you Like the Maude character or Not.Christmas sale brought this in under $70, a reach for my budget, so I thought I should put out a rave, glad I spent the money!

... and then there's Maude!
One of the all-time classic episodes of "All in the Family" features everyone getting the flu and Edith calling on her cousin Maude to come care for everyone. Bea Arthur landed on the Bunker's doorstep with a thud and the rest is television history!"Maude" showcased the anti-Archie Bunker: a loud-mouth butt-in-ski who, this time around, was a liberal, not a conservatives. Who was educated as opposed to a high school drop-out (fair enough, Archie DID go back for his GED at least). But at the core, another ignorant, self-entitled, know-it-all who couldn't fathom NOT being right. All that said, I love Maude Findlay and her family. Teetering on the edge of sanity (and sobriety) is husband Walter, her "next generation" daughter Carol, a single mother raising a son, and Walter's dopey doctor friend, Arthur, who is clearly a dig at the 1970s conservative mindset.I've only watched the first 2 seasons so far, but the show has Normal Lear stamped all over it. What other '70s show (not THAT '70s show, friends) would have the lead character struggling whether or not to have an abortion 9 episodes into it's six-year run?Classic sitcom fans need this on their video shelves, right next to their boxed sets of "All in the Family," and "The Jeffersons".

Does NOT have subtitles
This series is listed as having English subtitles. I NEED subtitles as I have a serious hearing issue, so, based on the description, I purchased the set. It is USELESS to me.

I purchased Season 1 years ago and was disappointed when they didn't release any more seasons
MAUDE finally comes to DVD in full! I purchased Season 1 years ago and was disappointed when they didn't release any more seasons! This box set is really nice and a lot of hard work and attention was put into it; from the amazing artwork to the individual discs and inside sleeves, bonus disc with interviews, The box set contains all 141 episodes on 19 DVDs, as well as a 40-page collector's booklet! It's a nice collectors item if you were a fan of the show and the late Bea Arthur. MAUDE was groundbreaking for it's time, tackling controversial subject matter about abortion, race and really wasn't afraid to go there! Definitely ahead of it's time, Bea Arthur is a comedy legend! Rue McClanahan was also great as her best friend. The Bonus features on the extra disc include:Original All In The Family Episode "Cousin Maude's Visit"Original All In The Family Episode "Maude - Pilot"Unaired Episode 115 "The Double Standard"Unaired Episode 316 "Maude's New Friends"Syndication Sales Presentation (Hosted By Norman Lear)Featurette: "And Then There's Maude: Television's First Feminist"Featurette: "Everything but Hemorrhoids: Maude Speaks To America" Interviews with Bea ArthurFeaturette: "Memories of Maude" - Featuring New Interviews With Adrienne Barbeau And Bill Macy
