A serious and thoughful film
A respectful account of the events in Fatima, Portugal in 1917, when three young children were granted visions of Our Lady. There is no attempt to recreate those visions by showing Our Lady (wisely) with the concentration on the reaction of the children There is also background on their families, the people of the village and the authorities who tried to stop them. Gilbert Roland plays a fictional character, who is probably there to try tie the story together. There is always a debate about religious films and their portrayal of their accuracy, but as a believer, I think this a worthwhile attempt, but for those who wish to know all the details of the Fatima events, then there are many books on the subject.

Authentic and moving
The 'Miracle of Our Lady of Fatima', I found engrossing, moving, and true to the facts viz. the apparitions of the Blessed Virgin Mary to three young children at Fatima, Portugal, in 1917. The film, made nearly 60 years ago, is respectful to the subject matter, without being obsequious, and the action and acting were excellent. The story line held the attention throughout, and I found this personally very moving. This is quite an old film and the purists might suggest that the occasional background and sets showed this, but don't let this put you off! The final miracle at Fatima promised by Our Lady to the children, involving the sun 'dancing' in the sky and suddenly dropping towards the earth causing panic among the 70,000 onlookers, was strikingly portrayed. For those who know nothing of this stupendous event, and who would like to learn more prior to watching the film, much information is available on the internet. As for the film, I strongly recommend it.

good movie
It is faithful to what Lucia tells in her own book about the messages of Fatima and the events.

Great film that really gets to you
I loved this film the moment I had finished watching it. It's not as moving as The Song of Bernadette, but it's still quite an emotional film though. It's quite moving when you see that these 3 children/teenagers were chosen by the Virgin Mary to deliver their message to people. I suppose you don't have to be religious to watch it either, it could just be the equivalent to a weepy film for the non believer. I'm so glad I got this on DVD (I used to have it on VHS before this), which means that I can sit and watch it and start getting (slightly) weepy. But yeah, great film.
