Expensive, but Worth It
I bought this to go with the 9-foot TropiShade umbrella TropiShade 9 ft Bronze Aluminum Market Umbrella with Beige Polyester Cover. I needed something to shade my a/c unit, and this is working great. The base is quite large, very flat & quite heavy (55 lbs). I was a little concerned about placing it on uneven bare ground, but the umbrella went in nice & straight. The umbrella fit perfectly with just enough wiggle room to tighten the bolts against the pole. When the a/c is on, it creates a pretty significant updraft, but this base is heavy enough to hold the umbrella firmly in place. We've had a few pretty gusty, hot days since we got it, and so far, so good. Even with the updraft plus the wind, this base is heavy enough to hold onto the umbrella securely. You wouldn't know that the base and the umbrella are from 2 different manufacturers. The paint colors on the base and the pole match perfectly.I like the thinness of this base. It's unobtrusive and has a modern style. Although I'm not using it as a base for an outdoor umbrella in the center of a patio table, I would get this one because it's flat and won't get in the way of feet movement. I really wanted something different than the bulb-type traditional base.Expensive, but worth it if you need a stand that absolutely won't tip or let go of your umbrella. This thing is solid! Nice quality, too.

THE LAST UMBRELLA BASE YOU'LL EVER NEED TO BUY! AND HERE'S WHY...
My previous umbrella base was a top pick on Wirecutter that cost $80, so not cheap. But over time, there were a couple of things I really disliked. First, while it had plenty of weight at 50 pounds in a diameter of only 16 inches, its height was significant, which seriously cut into foot space under the patio table. Second, and more importantly: it lacked a sleeve to hold and bolster the umbrella pole. Instead, the pole went into a well in the base of the stand where it was held in place by a single thumb screw. Even though I tightened the screw down with a tool, my umbrella always stood slightly tilted, and I found out the hard way that one screw isn't enough. A recent gust of wind pulled the umbrella straight up out of the stand, toppled my whole table for 6, then blew the 10 foot umbrella straight into my living room window--I'm still not sure how it didn't shatter. This Abba umbrella base is a different story altogether, and while it's certainly expensive, you DO get what you pay for! The quality of construction is as significant as its weight. It's not just the steel plate base that's heavy duty--so is the umbrella sleeve, the hefty-sized allen screw that secures it, and even the large-scale allen key tool that's provided to tighten it. My 1.5" umbrella pole fit snugly into the sleeve, while the double, heavy-duty screws with hand-tighten fasteners securely hold it in place. Now my dining table umbrella (which goes through a hole in the table center) stands completely straight, no tilt, plus there's plenty of foot room under the table thanks to the completely flat profile of the base. If you'd like to save some money, keep your eye on reduced prices for units from Amazon Warehouse. I saved about 30% for an open box unit with damage to the packaging, but it otherwise appeared to be brand new. Thanks for taking the time to read my review and I hope you find it helpful in making a buying decision!

High quality, heavy and mobile
This umbrella base is high quality. It's nice and heavy to keep the umbrellas in place. The wheels are nice added function for mobility. My umbrella needed to be closed in order to tilt the base to use the wheels. It took a minute to get the bolts lined up for installation but they eventually all aligned for fairly easy assembly. I also own the base without the wheels but the wheels are worth the additional cost if you plan to move this once in a while.

Great product.
Update. I dropped it from 5 to 4 stars after a year of use. The edges of this base are sharp. So frequently when I move it the edges dig into the deck.Great product, very sturdy. What sold me on this was that it was very thin and wide. I wanted a thin base to fit under the sofa due to the angle of the sun through the day. I also wanted something wide to handle any wind because it was so thin.By the nature of the shape it isn't very easy to move. The wheels do help. However, if I don't bend the base to an extreme angle, the wheels don't make contact and/or the edges will scratch the surface of my deck. I can't roll it around the rotation of the circular base (if that makes sense) either because the edges are too sharp--not dangerous, just will scratch the surface. In the end, I pick it up to move it which can be the heavier solution with base at 55lbs alone + umbrella. I bought a mat to sit it on for when I just need to move it a few inches to adjust. This works fine but is an added expense.I especially like the two fasteners on the tube. I read a lot of reviews with one fastener that the umbrella pole would still rotate with the wind. No chance here.Because the base is so wide, it isn't incredibly even and the umbrella/base can rock with the wind but only slightly. I could probably easily fix this by wedging things under the wedge. Haven't bothered yet because it isn't bad.Too soon to comment on how it does in the rain and rusting. I'll update next year in 2021!I'd definitely buy it again.

Know the diameter of your umbrella post
I guess I assumed that most umbrella stands were a standard size,… they aren’t.The stand itself is low profile so not much to stub toes on your deck or patio. Heavy enough to not allow umbrellas to take flight if locked down. I was disappointed when the umbrella I bought this for didn’t fit in the stand. Make sure you know measurements before you buy

The wheels are terrible
Got this base so we could move our patio umbrella around on the patio, the wheels broke within 1 week and now we're stuck with an expensive but non-functional base.

Very sturdy
Would have given 5 stars but item came with some very large scratches. Too heavy to return. Hoping it's going to keep my 10 foot umbrella from flying into the pool.
