A sinking feeling...
For the price this is a good mat. I'm a serious golfer and I don't get time to go to the range but I like to hit balls every day. The thing that bugged me immediately about this mat was it feels spongy under your feet. It's almost like hitting off of wet soggy grass where you sink down into the mud. It's not quite that bad, but your feet will sink into this mat a bit and for me it was a different sort of feeling. The good news is, unlike wet muddy turf, your feet stay put. So you sink a little and then you're good, so if you want to work on keeping the weight on the inside of your back foot you can actually angle your foot in there and it will stay there. I seemed to get used to it pretty quick so I don't think it's a really big deal, but it's not like standing on real turf. Other than that the ball sits up real nice on it so it's easy to pick the ball clean off the turf. I normally don't take much of a divot so the strike felt fine. I've read others say the turf is sticky, but I didn't find that to be the case. I imagine it could be if you hit it fat or normally take big divots.

Don't know why this product gets any bad reviews
I understand why some complain about the one edge that is not cut straight and it is a bit concerning when you first get the mat but I'm happy as hell that I bought this mat. This thing punishes you correctly for fat shots and you don't hurt your hands when you hit a fat shot. I use this with my Sky Trak is why I know it punishes for your fat shots. I've only had this for 10 days or so but I have hit over a thousand shots off of it and it shows zero wear and I do hit fat shots. You could spend twice as much on a mat and may not get any better performance than you do with this mat. Also, you can trim up that rough edge a bit and to tell you the truth that's a mute point to me now.

Great mat... Can't imagine *not* having it.
I've had this mat about a year now, and it's been great. I have it sitting on top of a used range mat, and it's been sitting outside in my driving area (platform, net, etc.) the entire time. I'll hit about 900 - 1000 balls a week. I've hit when it's 95 degrees and when it's 19 degrees. The mat has been rained on, snowed on, frozen, you name it. And it's doing great. I rotate it every couple of months and have never had a problem. Some people have complained about fraying - yup...a little. But for me, it's no big deal. A couple of threads are loose - it's not progressing, it does not affect its use at all, and frankly it doesn't bother me. You could probably tape it up or use a great gun to melt it just a little around the perimeter, but I really don't see it as an issue. It's a great mat to hit balls off. It's comfortable to stand on, sets the ball up nicely, and slows your club way down on a bad swing - just like the real thing.Wasn't the absolute cheapest mat available, but I'd be hard pressed to imagine that the ones costing more than 3 times as much could be that much better or hold up any better. Couldn't be happier!

Bought in 2013
I have used this mat since 2013 - not as much as other reviewers but I do like the feel of hitting off of it. I mainly practice short approach shots off my patio in the back yard. I wanted to start using it in the winter in the garage with a net for my longer game. I did not like that it had no backing and the edges were frayed. I keep it outside but rolled up under our deck and it has held up well. However, I am a small female and it was getting too much to lug around. Also the edges curled up so much it did not lie flat. In other words, I was not using the full 4x5 ft anyway. I decided to cut it down to 3x4, hot glued the edges and put two rows of Gorilla tape around on the bottom side. This has made it the perfect mat for me. If anyone is having a problem with fraying and lying flat, I think the glue gun and tape will do the trick for you.

Great mat, especially for the price!
This mat is just as described. I have easily hit over 2000-3000 balls off of it and no wear! When hitting it fat, impact is does not produce a lot of stress on your body but at the same time lets you know that you didn't hit the ball clean. My mat is in my garage on a cement floor and I have no problem sticking a tee in the mat and as mentioned earlier the tee's do tend launch (not a big deal since I am hitting into a net), although you may want a shorter/fatter tee. The mat is fairly heavy and I have not had any problems with it shifting or moving and it seems to stick to my floor very well (on a side note, I have finished and sealed my garage floor). With shoes on the mat it feels very authentic compared to real grass, but since I have mine the garage and every time I walk by the door I feel the need to take a couple of swings, so I hit some in my socks or bare feet. Without shoes you tend to sink a little bit more from the direct pressure making it a little harder to swing and get leverage.I can't really imagine the mats that are $400 plus being any better. I go to golftec and hit off their mats and I actually like this mat better. Also on a side not, this mat comes rolled up shipped and it took a good week or two for it to settle flat. For the price you will be hard pressed to do better.

Not the same quality as the first one I ordered
I love the first one I ordered and it has lasted a few years and thousands of shots. I ordered another one, but the new one is of inferior quality. Side by side, it is not as thick as the first one. Also, the fibers are not wound as tightly, so that a tee will hardly stand up. I wish the quality was the same as before! What happened??

Definitely worth it
I probably read every review on every hitting mat before I purchased this mat. I had a cheap mat that I used before that felt like I was hitting of plywood after a while. With this mat I actually get punished for my fat shots ,which I can confirm with my skytrak. I would call the the most affordable high quality mat that will last. I have hit approx 500 balls so far and absolutely no sign of damage. It does look like it was just cut off a big roll of turf but it doesnt look so bad after you see it for a few days. I would highly recommend this mat to anyone
