Celebracion: Opening Night Concert & Gala

The other night I landed on PBS and lo and behold, they were playing this DVD. Let me say I freaked out entirely. The Dynamic Duo --Florez and Dudamel-- had me crying, dancing and wanting to run to my computer and write poetry. But I totally melted as Marquez' Danzon # 2--my favorite piece ever--was played. I ran to Amazon and bought two copies: one for myself and one for my sister (we both grew up in Caracas). Dudamel is the best gift Venezuela has given the worldnot its plastic beauty queens Flores comes from Perú, a country that saw and heard the likes of Luigi Alva. This recording makes me proud of being a Latin American.

I just received the DVD from Amazon and have had it on continuous play all day. The young Maestro really brings out details in the two Rossini overtures I have never heard or noticed before.....the performance of the overture to Semiramide made my hair stand on end. Dudamel is quite a showman .........he is fun to watch. During the big crescendos in the Rossini overtures he actually stops waving his arms and sorta dances his way through them.Juan Diego Flores was in great voice for this performance ........... it seems he was very relaxed and was really into performing that night..................is there a better Rossini/ bel canto tenor singing today?? I think not.He brought the house down with his encore, the high C laden aria from Le Fille du Regiment.Great disc......not to be missed.

I viewed this concert when it aired on KCET and recorded it, but I changed cable provider and lost the box with many recorded items, including this concert.I like this DVD very much with a couple of exceptions; the concert itself is intact and it's glorious. However, this CD lacks the backstage activity during rest periods and intermission, which was part of the program. It also it doesn't have the charming interview of both Dudamel and Florez by lovely Eva Mendez, which, for me, was another highlight of the evening.I'm still glad I purchased the CD, and recommend it.

I just received my DVD yesterday. I enjoyed watching this DVD. The music is awesome!It is now my favorite Concert DVD. If you like Classical Music you will not be disapointed. The music is clear and accurate. Every note is used for a purpose. Nothing is wasted but all used for an effect to enhance the music. It definetly works. I hated for it to end I enjoyed it so much. This Dvd is the real deal. I would rate it a 10 if I could. I will sum it up Great Music, Great Singing, Great Conductor!Don't wait buy it! !

If you havent seen Gustavo Dudamel Conducting, this is the video to see. Its a pleasure to hear Juan Diego Florez singing all those areas and the famous South American Songs that most of us know ! You can see they connect with each other so well.I saw this concert on PBS in Florida, I thought it would be identical, the Concert was but I missed the interview off stage with both of them that PBS had.Great but to have in your library !

I was really looking forward to this DVD and I did not enjoy it much at all . I got very tired of Dudame jumping around on his rostrum , I did not like his selection of music , I did not like the balance of sound between the orchestra and Florez in his first two arias and I found his rendition of Granada rather flat . Have heard A mis amis enough times now as well as la fleur de la canela ..So Juan Diego how about something new please ..

I saw the LA Philharmonic on a PBS tv show. I didnt know who the conductor was, but I started Googling the LA Phil. and found out. This is a great concert and Dudamel is a great conductor. I also enjoyed the "extra" interview with him and it helped a lot to know who he was. Florez is a great tenor singer.

The story of Gustavo Dudamel and the evolution of the Venezuelan Youth Orchestra, from its inception as a way of improving the lives of poor Venezualan kids through the achievement of the superb musicianship of the orchestra now, is a wonderful story. The success achieved by the Venezuelans is wonderfully demonstrated by the superb performances in this disk.

The great voice of Juan Diego Flórez with the enthusiast conducting of Gustavo Dudamel is the perfect combination for this wonderful concert. Of mandatory vision. Don't miss it!!

Was für ein stimmungsvoller Abend aus der Konzerthaus in los Angeles. Dudamel und Florez sind beide in Hochform. Dazu ein bestens aufgelegtes Orchester. Die gute Laune aller Beteiligten springt nicht nur auf das Konzertpublikum über. Auch am heimatlichen Bildschirm kommt die Stimmung voll rüber. Florez ist stimmlich in Hochform. Dudamel und Florez harmonieren wunderbar miteinander. Aber nicht nur der Gesang, sondern auch die reinen Orchesterstücke begeistern. Diese DVD vertreibt trübe Stimmung garantiert. Sie wird häufiger in meinem Player landen. Ich empfehle schnelles Zugreifen, bevor dieses tolle Konzert wieder aus dem Katalog verschwindet.
