I bought this product as a potential gift having already purchased the HC300 - with great results. This camera has exactly the same spec with a little less night camera lighting. However there are several improvements from the HC300 in that the display screen is bigger and the user interface is much clearer. Also the set up has changed so that you can look through the back of this and see exactly the kind of picture you will get, or even take a practice photo using the 'shot' mode. This is a good edition.One of the other upgrades is that mounts are now on the reverse and bottom of the camera, giving you much more versatility if you want to mount it with the bracket provided. This camera has 130 degree detection which can be switched off.I've managed to get good results in both night and day mode but find short video clips work best for night time (These are too large to upload here). To get best results you need to experiment.Unlike the HC300 this camera takes a micro SD so don't be caught out there. Overall I'd say the HC400 is another imrovement on the HC300. The camera lens is now in the middle of the unit, which if you are putting it on the floor is probably a better level for British wildlife. On early tests it also seems that the microphone picks up much more than it's predecessor. I've not yet managed to film the hedgehog on this camera yet (which I did on the previous) so apologies for the many pictures of cats. Still with time and patience this camera could yield excellent results. In winter I intend to put it somewhere more obscure and check back on it every few days or weeks. You can also use the camera as a time lapse which I'll be testing on my plants soon.

Brilliant really happy with this . Pictures were taken through glass but still nice and clear .Night vision is good too and it certainly detected our dogs wandering round the garden .We bought Duracell rechargeables and battery life is very good .Also bought the card reader attachment for iPad .Just something worth noting .Instructions say to format SD card ( bought separately ) in the camera .This doesn’t work if u want to use iPad or iPhone .You need to format SD card on a pc and choose fat 32 .Works perfectly now .Very happy with my product .

I needed to read the instructions quite carefully in order to set up the camera. The iinstruction manual provided with the camera is fairly limited, - there is a fuller one available on-line.Initially I was reading the set-up menu in bright light, but by moving into the shade the menu options became legible and setting-up was fairly straightforward.My one big gripe is that when I ordered the camera from Amazon I was presented with the usual "Users Also Bought" selection. This included the battery charger plus 8 batteries, and the 32Gb SD card. Unfortunately, the SD card offered was the WRONG SD card.There are two types of 32GB SD card, - "large" and "micro" (for want of better descriptions).The camera uses the 32GB micro SD card but Amazon sent the other type. This meant that I had to go into town to buy the correct type of SD card for the camera before it could be used. Not amused.(The "large 32 GB SD card I kept as a spare for a digital camera that I own.)

I have two of these cameras now, I like the wider angle view that you get with them. Very sharp clear video and easy to set up. Personally, I think there are two things that could be improved - firstly the booklet that comes with the camera does not give any indication of the best settings to use, ie for PIR sensors and secondly, installing the memory card is a very fiddly business. The card obviously is very tiny and can spring back out if you're not careful to push it 'home' before taking your hand away. I nearly lost a card when I was trying to insert it back into the camera whilst in the garden and it shot across the lawn and took some time to find! I wish the card could go in at the top of the unit because I leave the camera in place for days at a time, just removing the card for viewing and then replacing it each night. Bending double in order to remove and replace the card is not something I can do so easily these days!

I was replacing a previous VW camera which i purchased in 2015. This new one is not as good. I went for one with a screen included which i hoped would mean i would not have to remove card each time to check activity. Unfortunately, the screen really is not big enough to review properly so i ended up taking out the card every few days to review. Micro SD card is located on bottom of camera which makes it fiddley to take out and you also run the risk of dropping it. Night picture quality is very black & white, contrast could be better. Not convinced by side motion sensors as fox always seems to be in middle of screen, if side sensors were any good you would see it approaching from left/right. Timer function works well and is very useful.All in all, would not select one with inbuilt screen again, would rather money went towards camera quality. Micro SD also very fiddley, would choose SD net time, also try and get camera with SD card slot on side as it is much easier to use.Overall, very disappointed. Not as good as my previous camera.
