Van Halen s 4x Platinum second album. Mastering engineer Chris Bellman, who remastered the original albums at Bernie Grundman Mastering Studios, was enlisted for this new version. In order to produce the original sound the band intended, Bellman cut straight from the quarter-inch tapes for CD; for 180-gram vinyl; and for the digital versions.

THE Cult Classic Van Halen Album
"Diver Down", despite being panned by critics as one of Van Halen's worse albums, wholeheartedly deserves the status it's garnered as a cult classic of the David Lee Roth era. Heck, I'd say it easily falls within my personal top three albums from the group alongside the original "Van Halen" and "5150".Addressing the elephant in the room, yes, there are more covers than typically present on a traditional Van Halen album. The reason why it works, though, is that the instrumentation and Lee Roth's vocals make the song feel entirely different than that produced from the original artist. "Dancing in the Street" is a perfect example- a song that originally had a 60s pop/Motown vibe to it is completely transformed with the addition of the electric guitar riffs and copious amounts of synth effects. The covers get even better when they step away from the traditional hard-hitting sounds of Van Halen. "Big Bad Bill (Is Sweet William Now)" is preserved in the style of a barbershop quartet-esque vibe, which allows the listener to hear a completely new side of Van Halen usually not present. They serve as a nice break from the traditional Van Halen sound, and it makes this album particularly good for those just getting into the band. All the original songs on the album are pretty killer as well. Some of them like "Hang 'Em High" keep that good ol' hard rock-pop sound to them most are familiar with from Van Halen. Others such as "Secrets" take a slower paced yet still upbeat vibe, and it compliments nicely with the previously mentioned covers that take the same route. From the entire album "Little Guitars" has got to be my favorite; It starts out with an incredibly smooth acoustic guitar solo from Eddie before jumping into a nice, bouncy song about Lee Roth trying to chase down another gal as his usual antics entail.Don't listen to what the critics have to say, especially when it comes to this album. If you're new to Van Halen, this is an amazing album to start out. And if you're a long-time fan such as I, do yourself a favor and add this to your collection.

Probably the most diverse Van Halen album on 180g vinyl...
The early Van Halen remasters so far have been great and this is no exception to the rule. Re-Released on 180g vinyl by Warner Brothers this heavy vinyl is ultra quiet. The cover is made from heavy card stock and the original inner sleeve with artwork is included. Also as an extra bonus the record itself is in an audiophile quality while paper sleeve that is plastic lined. Every care and careful detail has been put into these vinyl re-release projects for Van Halen and they really are amazing. Having Ted Templeman as a producer from 78-84 was a plus for the original audio capture for instruments and voices so the original material was laid down well. With the exception of Pretty Woman. I’m not sure what happened here but I’ve heard this on everything from vinyl, CD, to cassette, to 45 and now the Remastered version and they all sound similar. Maybe they were trying for an AM type retro sound. Don’t get me wrong, this is still the best that that Pretty Woman has ever sounded, it just wasn’t captured well from the start. Everything else is great. Most people prefer the Dave albums that got the most airplay and are the most recognizable like Van Halen 1 and 1984. But the albums from Van Halen 2 to Diver Down all have a similar format and order and are loaded with creativity. This may be the most diverse collection of tunes for this band. It’s certainly entertaining to listen to. The cover tunes are fun and pretty good. Cathedral is an innovative instrumental. Secrets is a wonderful song showing the band’s ability to scale it back a bit. Intruder is the intro to Pretty Woman and it is captured well with a phenomenal sound. Each song just shows off that Van Halen with Dave was capable of so much. If you’re considering it, it’s worth it! A truly wonderful vinyl experience...

2015
i bought the Roth era 2015 remasters (mostly from amazon) and what i got were cds that look exactly like cds from 30+ years ago (with the black cd backing and spine) The back cover of them are a little different that the amazon pics too. through days of research, i have found these are European re-issue remasters. these ARE a remaster, they just DON'T LOOK like it. they will have the new warner label (in bold print) that have the word WARNER above the word RECORDS with an almost circle just to its left. the last 5 digits of the barcode printed on the SIDE SPINE are:Self/Titled: _55243 / VH2: _54918 / WaCF: _54956 / FW: _54970 / DD: _54994IMO these do sound better than the originals as they are louder, cleaner and clearer, wider soundscape and i can hear greater definition between vocals and other instruments. these might not be perfect but i have heard worse attempts in remasters.JUST BE WARNED THAT THESE WILL LOOK LIKE THE ORIGINALS, CHECK BARCODES BEFORE OPENING AND MAKE SURE IT SAYS 2015 IN THE PRODUCT DESCRIPTION BEFORE 'ADDING TO CART'.

Amazing condition
Buying an album can be tricky. So many choices. Original issue, reissue, remastered. Which one is best? I prefer the original issue. This record has no scratches on it. Amazing quality. I'm super happy.

One of the good ones
I still have this release on LP. Now I have it on CD. This is a cool release of VH. Theres some good songs on this title like: "Where Have All The Good Times Gone!" & "Hang'em High" & "Dancing In The Street." & more. This is VH in their heyday. Until the time I've seen Alex's drums from this release was up for sale. I wonder if anyone rich enough to have bought that huge set? This was released in 1982 it still kicks the dirt. (I guess being loud enough?) VH - Diver Down isn't a disappointment. You must like VH from the start? Recommended.
