Mrs Funnybones is a nice light entertaining read
Mrs Funnybones is a nice light entertaining read. The author addresses most of the everyday issues of family life and some main stream issues of culture and so called tradition on lighter notes and is bang on them resonating with all liberated thinkers of Indian origin.Twinkle Khanna is quite a riot as she tells us about the many roles she plays and relationships she juggles.I quite the names she uses to address the main characters in the book along with the way she humors the characters.Recommend the book to one and all. It is definitely a one time read and a book for the home library!!

Fun read
Fast easy read. Fun. Plenty of relatable vignettes. Bought this without realizing author was part of a famous acting family. Interesting to google the characters and learn more, the mother in law was in Tenet.

Humor with a tinge of philosophy
This book is easy to read. It is written in simple language, yet there is a sophistication to that simplicity. Twinkle has a good sense of humor, and as she tries to view her numerous everyday life situations from a humorous perspective, she could be excused if some of the jokes sound cliched. The reader is bound to find her style disarming, especially her penchant for laughing at herself (considering her celebrity background). Hidden within that humor are some nuggets of wisdom and food for thought. She might agree with Mark Twain, who once said "Laughter without a tinge of philosophy is but a sneeze of humor." I would recommend this book to anyone who is looking to spend a few hours reading something lighthearted and funny.

A Brilliant book
An irreverent , roller coaster account of life when viewed through a not so ordinary mirror. Twinkle delights you with her tongue perpetually in her cheek quips on practically everything .Her insights on human relationships and her observational skills re extraordinary .The prose in her narrative lilts along like flawless poetry .This book belongs to a genre rarely encountered in most writing . She is one of those authors who come along every other decade or so . I look forward to more from her as she gets the responsibility of raising a family out of the way and carves out more time for her her passion .

I felt like it was random observations
This book is not really a story just pieces of random thoughts and information. There was nothing eye opening or inspirational. I felt like it was random observations. If there were ALL TRUE incidents or observations of Twinkle Khanna then maybe I would have given it a 4 star but she says some of the stuff is fictional. Made up random thoughts are not funny.

A good eead
I don't agree with Twinkle's world view on religion, customs and tradition. However, she is extremely authentic and opens up a view into a celebrity couple's life in a disarming manner. There were a few minutes of genuine laughter from reading a book. Will look forward to her next effort as well. BTW, I am a big Akki fan.

After reading all the good reviews I ended up purchasing the book
After reading all the good reviews I ended up purchasing the book. Having read Twinkle's blogs, I felt kind of cheated as a lot of chapters in the book were mere copy-paste from her blogs! However, her writing is wonderful and has a very good sense of humor. I finished reading the book straight in 2 hours! I wish it was longer but more novel stories rather than picking up stuff from her own blog.

Breezy, Easy, And Funny
I finished this book in four hours. No water break, no loo break, just four hours of reading and I was done. That could be because the Mrs Funnybones is a quick read and also because I had read most of the columns in a newspaper before. I used to love Twinkle Khanna’s column in DNA. She is witty, amusing and unabashed. She does not mince her words for anybody and her brutal honesty can prick a little. However, her sense of humour is unmatched and I read the book only to jostle my funny bone on a rather dull day.Mrs Funnybones by Twinkle KhannaSynopsis: Mrs Funnybones is a compilation of satirical stories written by Twinkle Khanna for various newspapers. The book captures some hilarious incidences in her daily life and her amusing take on each of them.Points I Liked About Mrs Funny BonesHumour: The author has an opinion about everything and she presents most of her thoughts in a humorous way. Some of her words did seem a little offensive but then I accepted it as her opinion and not as the ultimate truth so I enjoyed the book even more. The author belongs to a wealthy family which is why her problems and solutions may not appeal to the common folk reading the book. In fact, most of the content might not even be relatable but it is a glimpse into her real (privileged) life and for me it was just a different angle to look at life. My favourite chapter is Hurricanes hit my household in which she talks about her staff member who is an oblivious menace to her. I had read this column in DNA and was happy to read it again in the book. This chapter is a MUST read. Here are some funny excerpts from Mrs Funnybones“Don't look down on people because they can see the crap stuck up your nostril.”“Naming me Twinkle was a foolproof way of making sure that I would get teased throughout my life, have immigration officers at various airports stare at my passport and shake with hysterical laughter and strangers stalk me with WhatsApp messages like, ‘Twinkle, Twinkle, little star, I hope you get hit by a car!’”“The man of the house has very politely informed guests who have come to see the baby that I am unavailable, as I am ‘milking’, and thereby sealed my status from cool chick to mooing cow.”“Our little satellite reached Mars because it was called MOM. If it was called DAD, it would still be circling the Earth, lost, but not willing to ask for directions.”“We may have potholed roads but at least we have many people willing to travel with us on them.”“After fourteen years of matrimony, I have discovered that hoping your other half telepathically reads your mind only leads to someone wanting to punch the other one in the face.”Points I Did Not Like About Mrs Funny BonesThis one is a very short read and the author has made a jibe at herself, her husband and even her mother. So, basically, no one is spared of witty remarks. I may not agree with all her opinions but I enjoyed every single page of this book. No complaints here.Final View: Four hours is the fastest I have ever finished a book. Mrs Funnybones is really ‘funny’ and entertaining. I would recommend this book to everyone who respects others opinions and is looking for a light read.Originally posted on AlphaGirlReviews.com

I am happy for the fact that I got my hands on ...
Mrs. Funnybones by Twinkle Khanna is a first person, fact and fiction account of a woman - a daughter, a wife, a daughter-in-law, a mother, a homemaker and an entrepreneur, all in one body. While I don't know how much of it happened in real, and how much of it was improvised upon, I am happy for the fact that I got my hands on a good read. The protagonist of the novel is the author herself (so whether I write author or protagonist, they mean the same) her family comprising of - the man of the house, the prodigal son and the baby, her ever so “antique” mother, her lovable yet hateful mother-in-law, her german shepherds and yes, her very own hand-me-down desi Jeeves. There is no story as such, but a compilation of incidences from the protagonist’s life which forms the entire plot - serious and hilarious, churned into one and served on a platter of laughter. The author’s sense of humor, her ability to look into the brighter side of things, her patience and the belief that a family stays together despite their differences, is beautifully portrayed. Giving goals to hundreds of She's - “Just like you and a lot like me”, this protagonist has forayed straight into her fans’ hearts.Though this the author’s debut novel, I happened to read it after I read her second one (the review for which you can read under the corresponding title) and boy, it is a masterpiece! Written in a diary style, providing anecdotes of the author’s life, the division of the chapters is literally done alphabetically, giving the readers an A to Z window into the life of the protagonist. The more I delved into the book, the more I realized how very similar these celebrities are to us (considering that all of what is written in the book is not fictionalized) - a husband who works and works and is found only at the times when you need to be left alone, or making plans suddenly that takes the complete household off tracks; a son who starts taking on his father from a young age, an outlook towards women and yes, falling in love; a baby who seems to have born with karate limbs, and will definitely do what she shouldn’t at the wrong time; a mother who tries to involve herself too much into your home - decorating it with various eccentric and antique pieces is her pass time; a mother-in-law who gets upset if there are only 4 dishes on the dinner table, and who feeds her like she is feeding the entire Punjab and never wants her to fit into her pre-baby jeans again; and last, but not the least, a house help, who has been handed down from God knows where, and is the closest sibling of Mr. Bean. The purpose of this book is simple - Life is what you make of it, if it gives a lemon, gulp a tequila and suck on it.Recommended for all those women, who think they could have been better off, had they been someone else, and to those, who think women at home do nothing.

Finally, good Indian fiction
Twinkle Khanna, a former actress turned interior decorator turned writer, lets you know early on in her book that she is done with showbiz, decisively so. It doesn’t creep into her reminiscences, it doesn’t colour her present and it only ever sneaks into her future when she makes a wry assumption about “the prodigal son“–in case he ever wants to join the family business. This is a woman who has moved on, as much as she can being married to who she is. And here’s the other thing, she’s just too much fun, in a self-deprecating, off-the-cuff way, that makes you feel like you’ve known her for years, and not in the “I’ve seen all your (very bad) movies” way. While she hasn’t become a typical Bollywood homemaker, she isn’t strutting around all over Page 3 in her Manolos either. So how does the former “fat girl” that she admits still lives in her head, get so comfortable in her skin, especially in our self-conscious and judgmental Bollywood?I think one safe assumption would be that she was born into it. The book dedicated to her father, recalls an instance where an all-knowing auto driver relates an alleged family feud back to her about her own family and their sea-facing property, drawing Mrs Funnybones into an existential third-person angst that “the man of the house” shoots down with what the readers will come to recognise as a deadpan, deliciously tactless and practical Delhi style. It is a telling incident in the book, reflecting the “otherness” the young girl anointed with the comical name and born to famous parents must have felt and still does. And in many ways this book is really about finally being herself; that is where the subtext gets you, with its honesty and uncharacteristically good-natured take on life.Twinkle Khanna, born to famous film stars and married to one, is not someone you would empathise or identify with and yet her skill in her narrative lies in the fact that when you turn to the last page, that is exactly how you feel. How does she pull it off? Early on, in filmy fashion, she distances herself from the “autobiographical” nature of the book, its embellishments, she warns people, real and somewhat imagined, are not entirely true to her life. But she is only being thoughtful, and to be fair to her, the most brutal honesty comes when she writes about herself or her alter ego, Mrs Funnybones. She dips in and out of intimacy with effortless ease, telling you as much as she wants to and sometimes telling you too much. But that is what makes this book a conversation and not yet another insider account of a glamorous life, a tell-all about how showbiz people are the worst, or, worst of all, a sanctimonious “how-to-have-it-all” guide.I enjoyed this book for many reasons, it is endearing, funny and well-written. But what makes it special is the casual way in which it addresses the human preoccupation with belonging–one that we all experience–be it to our parents, our careers, our bodies, our partners or their families. It is this eternal quest to belong and yet “un-belong” in order to preserve who we truly are, that is the seed of this book. A seed firmly planted in the mind of a young girl who grew up in the world of mirages and finally found her nook in a sea-face apartment with a droll husband, haphazard household help, cantankerous neighbours, controlling yet scatty parents, demanding business associates and generic urban anxiety, induced and self-created–basically all the stuff that makes up all our lives and, surprisingly, Mrs Funnybones’.

Laughter Unleashed: Mrs. Funnybones - A Roller Coaster of Wit and Humor!
When it comes to humor, Twinkle Khanna's "Mrs. Funnybones" is like a stand-up comedy show you can carry in your bag. This book isn't just a collection of anecdotes; it's a hilarious adventure that had me chuckling so hard I almost spilled my chai – which, incidentally, would have made for yet another Mrs. Funnybones-worthy moment! From the very first page, Twinkle Khanna's wit hits you like a dose of laughter medicine. She tackles everyday situations – from school drop-offs to dealing with tech-challenged parents – with a side-splitting hilarity that makes you wonder why you never thought of these things before. Her observations are like a mirror to our own lives, but with the comic filter dialed up to eleven.Twinkle's candid narration about her own quirks and escapades makes her feel like that witty friend you wish you had on speed dial. The book is sprinkled with her sardonic takes on celebrity life, parenting woes, and domestic adventures, all served up with a generous helping of self-deprecating humor that's as refreshing as a glass of cold lemonade on a hot summer day.But don't be fooled – "Mrs. Funnybones" isn't just about the laughs. Beneath the layers of rib-tickling humor lies a keen insight into the chaos and comedy that makes up our lives. Twinkle effortlessly weaves in moments of introspection and reflection, giving depth to the hilarity without ever dampening the mood. The book's format – a collection of essays – makes it perfect for those bite-sized reading sessions. I found myself sneakily reading a few pages during office breaks, only to dissolve into giggles that I could hardly explain to my colleagues. In a world that often takes itself too seriously, "Mrs. Funnybones" is a refreshing reminder that sometimes, the best way to deal with life's absurdities is to laugh at them. So, whether you're a Twinkle Khanna fan or just in need of a good laugh, pick up "Mrs. Funnybones." But be warned: you might end up being the person laughing out loud in a quiet coffee shop, earning you a few curious glances – but hey, it's totally worth it!

Good Autobiography but not that satisfactory
Title- Mrs Funnybones by Twinkle KhannaVersion- KindleGenre- Humor, AutobiographyPage count- 139As the book is in the form of an autobiography, there is no plot. The author has covered all the funny, annoying & important incidents happening in her life like a diary in this book. She has even mentioned few of her past experiences which had an impact on her. Also there are funny notes of her personal thoughts about her experiences before every chapterTwinkle Khanna is known for her outspoken, straightforward, witty & humorous nature. The incidents show her as an exhausting parent of her 2 children, a feminist wife & daughter-in-law of a Punjabi family, interior designer, a worrying woman about her post-pregnancy weight, striving everyday to manage her home & family as an Indian wife to a Bollywood actor. Not a single incident of what she goes through is without her cracking jokes on it.Yes the incidents are normal, the scenes are not that funny but it has been made funny by the author through her intelligent & witty jokes. She has commented truly on the bitter reality which still exists in India. The genre of humor is very tricky. Its not easy to write. What I didnt like is there were few jokes on ppl who didnt have proper language skills in english, there was a joke on our Indian Parliament, plus I also didnt come to an agreement with her thoughts on the reason behind Indian women following Karva Chauth rituals in ancient times. But she has also cracked jokes on herself, her children, her mother-in-law, her mom & sometimes on her husband so it seems that she is straightforward by nature. She writes what she feels & it needs guts to present her thoughts in front of the world. And I guess humor is all about speaking the reality indirectly by using funny words or cracking jokes on it. Writing style, narration & vocabulary is exclusive. I will go for 3.8/5⭐
