Great at first, then a disappointment
When I first bought this battery it was great and I wrote the review shown below. I eventually bought 3 of these. Unfortunately, after a while instead of 4 lights when charged, it went down to 3, then 2, and now one of them goes to 1 and the other 2 don't take any charge. It is no wonder that Amazon is not stocking them at all. A Black and Decker batter that I bought in 2014 still works fine!Old ReviewI have four Black & Decker 40-volt landscaping devices: a blower, a hedge trimmer, a string trimmer, and a combination blower/vac. I bought them several years ago and not surprisingly the original batteries started losing power and the time that the devices could be used before the batteries ran out of power. I went online but was blown away by the high price of OEM replacements. I was hesitant to buy a replacement battery with a brand name unknown to me, but the price was so much less expensive that I took the plunge. The result is that this upgraded battery has more power and works longer than the OEM battery. I. am replacing all of my OEM batteries with lower-priced devices from Amazon.

Didn’t last 1 season
This battery didn’t even last 1 season. When charging, it would start charging with green light flashing. Not long into the charging cycle it would start flashing red. When pulled out and put back in, it would start charging. But again, red light would start flashing and would not charge. Now after 1 year, it doesn’t charge at all

Still working great after one year of regular usage
This battery is just as good if not better than the B&D battery that it replaced. The charge lasts a long time. I used to have to charge my old battery after each use but this one lasts much longer...more like every 3rd or 4th use I charge it up. I'm using it for a string trimmer and leaf blower and have been very happy. If I needed to buy another one I'd get the exact same battery.Update: for some reason the battery isn't charging properly anymore. The charger indicates that the battery is bad but I think there's something else going on. The battery definitely can hold a charge but I have to trick the charger into charging it. And I don't think the charger is the problem because it's still works on another battery.

Stronger Than Original?
Have two of these for my weed eater and they seem to stay charged maybe longer than the original. My only question about these is their longevity as the first one I had to toss because it would not take a charge after a while. I never had that on the original brand name batteries which just don't last as long after a time.

Lasted 9 months and battery light was red when full not green.
I use this a lot. It lasted 9 months. The red light should mean it's not full but it was the other way around. Battery doesn't last that long but it was OK.

better than the original batteries
Dependable. Well made. Lasts longer than the original batteries that came with the lawn mower.

Junk Batteries
I have several B&D 40V tools that use this battery. I purchased a couple of the Chinese knock-offs a few years back, and didn't seem to have any trouble with them. I use a Sharpie and mark the purchase date on them so that I can keep track...I purchased two of these in June 2022. Unfortunately, I had to have foot surgery not long after and wasn't able to do my own yardwork, so these went largely unused during the 2022 season.A few weeks ago, I docked these up to charge to use for the 2023 season. They blink red on the B&D charger. Both of them are showing as defective, and will not charge.Total waste of money.

It WILL work...
I am going to answer my own question (which seems to have disappeared from above) – just in case anyone else needs a replacement battery for their Craftsman 40V Max tools & doesn’t want to pay as much for it as they paid for the tool, battery, and charger together when they first bought it.I went ahead and bought one of these and I can definitively state that, YES this battery WILL work with Craftsman 40 volt tools ->IF<- you are willing to make a small, easy, and quick (provided you have the right tools & know how to use them) modification to the battery case. HOWEVER, I cannot imagine how doing so would not void its warranty (or that of the tool if you somehow have one new enough to have such). Also, if you try this yourself, know that I am in no way responsible for your lack of necessary skill with a dremel and tamper proof torx drivers.
