Review "Stallings is like an indie punk band whose records are only known to the hippest few who are in the know. That is a cool thing but at the same time you know that if there ever was a band that deserved to be playing arenas, it's this one... the Moses McGuire series is 3 books in and I haven't detected a false note yet." - Dave Wahlman CRIMESPREE MAGAZINE "Think Mike Hammer as written by James Lee Burke or George Pelecanos and you might get an idea what to expect from this one...  A definite candidate for my favorite PI novel of the year."  - S0NS OF SPADE Blog"One More Body features an intriguing cast of memorable characters and reads like a west coast based, punk rock fueled take on Andrew Vachss' Burke series of novels. The thrilling action and powerful moments of character drama that fans of the McGuire series have come to expect are in abundance in this novel, which is even better than the previous two entries in the series."  - Dave Richards CRIMINALELEMENT Read more

One More Violent, Nasty Adventure For McGuire
"One More Body" is the third book in the Moses McGuire trilogy. If you have come late to the show, the background is the following. McGuire was a bouncer at a third-rate strip club in south Glendale. He is a big redheaded Viking ex-con, ex-marine, with a soft spot for damsels in distress. Through the first two books, he has taken on Russian thugs, mafia hoods, and fought his way from one state to another and back and forth across the US-Mexican border. As this book opens, he is semi-retired, living in a beach house in Ensenada with his dog and not thinking about ever returning to Greater Los Angeles. Good luck with that as he pulled out of retirement by an LAPD Officer with a sad story about a niece who was snatched up off the streets of Compton. She's heard about McGuire and wants his help rescuing her from the pimps who stole her.In a take-no-prisoners wild battle, McGuire fights his way against hoods and gangs and rocket launchers, ending up in prison and a psych ward and not knowing who he can trust and who he can take into this final battle against the rotten people who steal people and enslave them. It is again another damsel in distress being rescued story, but it is not a rehash of the earlier books. The story goes back and forth between McGuire's point of view and that of thirteen year old Freedom who was snatched off the street. Her story is heartbreaking and rather hard to read, particularly the rapes and other abuse. But, after reading her tale, you want McGuire to stomp these guys till there is nothing left of them.Stallings is a great writer and his prose just flows off the pages of these books. They are about the fastest reading books you will come across. They are gritty urban crime novels and are not filled with rainbows and unicorns, but it is sure good writing.

Rip roaring conclusion
In this 3rd, and last, in the series, Moses Is finally able to rest in peace. I know people that are involved in rescuing trafficking victims. I don't think Moses' methods are typical. But then the reality maybe wouldn't make a such a griping read. So RIP Mr. McGuire and thanks for the wild ride.

STILL GOT IT
OK, so the plots get harder to swallow.Who CARES???This is great fiction, folks. Grisly, sure, but it NEVER feels gratuitous. That's called Talent, my friends. We're given EVERY REASON not to care about these flawed, so-very-human characters, and yet WE DO.And THANK YOU for bringing Mikayla back. Those two are made for each other. Not that Sunshine doesn't hold her own, oh she's a firecracker, to be sure.'BAD' people don't usually get what they deserve in this world, so gratification is also abundant when one rides along with Moses.FIDO."He [the dirty DA] has turned poverty into a crime...," Insightful social commentary, anyone? Stallings hits every nail right on its head, typically with an AK-47 or a wad of C-4, but a point well-made is still a point well-made.I can't wait to read & ride along on MMs next adventure.Thank you, Mr. Stallings!!

Fantastic stories!
Every once in a while, you may come across something in your life that knocks you off track, provides more than just entertainment or education, but a deeper resonance with something that was already there inside of you. Could be a person, a situation, or in this case a book. (Actually 3 books as I had to read all the Moses novels in rapid succession). Can't adequately describe how good these books are- think Jack Reacher with more humanity, flaws and courage. Great action, but rather than just a vicarious satisfaction of watching some idealized hero kick ass, I find myself feeling a few bumps and bruises of my own after reading. Hope this isn't the last of the Moses books. Highly, highly recommend all three.

A hardboiled freight train full of hard knocks and heart
This was a fantastic read. If you haven't read Josh's books before, they are what I call James Crumley meets Robert Crais meets Ka-razy. A freight train of hardboiled heart, a man so devastated by human brutality that he hunts true evil and leaves their corpses at your doorstep, like a papa dog teaching you what needs to be done.

It is getting better and better!
The action relentless and the writing faultless.Moses Mc'Guire ( Stallings main character ) is gaining character depth from novel to novel and is now part of my "to follow" crazies. For an Andrew Vaachss fan such as myself this novel prooves that some Authors, like Stallings, will keep up the good work, the superb writing and plot and the plight of lost children. An awesome novel. Do not miss it!

The Real Deal
Stallings is writing some of the darkest books out there, and that is a compliment to him. Moses is a great character, full of scars, regret and self-hatred. All of the books in the series are great, but this one shows that Stallings is getting better every time he puts pen to paper (or fingers to keys). This can be read as a stand alone, but one is best served by getting their hands on all three books in the series and sinking themselves into Moses' world...you won't regret it for a minute.

Run N Gun with Moses McGuire...
Wow, by far the best of this series, this is book 3, in which our main character, Moses McGuire, tears across L.A, in a muscle car, popping pills, drinking whiskey, looking to rescue another stripper/prostitute from whatever group of gangsters/terrorists, have taken her. With only a mossberg, a 45, and his Albanian sidekick . Wait, that might have been book 1, or 2, doesnt matter, theyre all good!
