A book I should have had before now
So please with this book and still thinking wow if I had this 5 yrs ago when I started homeschooling my now 16 yr old daughter. I began homeschooling my daughter from her 6th grade year to now 10th grade and I have only had the internet, other homeschooling parents, google groups for resources and none of them have told me about this book or that there was a book out there to answer many of my questions. I have never heard any of them mention this book. Imagine I am a person who researches, asks questions and uses as many sources possible to help me learn and the last thing I thought of was a book about Homeschooling. Actually I didn't get concern until her 9th grade years because that's when I began to wonder how I was going to keep up with making sure she got all the educational credits and requirements she would need since she expressed an interest in possibly going to college.I will help you breath easier by telling you this book will put you at ease and it will give you that pat on the back and assurance you need that "YOU ARE DOING IT RIGHT!" There are as many ways to homeschooling as there are roads to lead you to a location when you google directions- depending upon where you are; right?... Well, there you go, this book is going to assure you that it does not matter when you start and there is no definitive way to homeschool and no matter when, where or how you ultimately will arrive at the point you desire too with your student - child's education. Is this book for Teen Years only? NO What age is this book for? From beginning homeschool, just getting started homeschooling and currently been homeschooling for years into the Teen Years. If you are Homeschooling a pre-teen of the 9th grade and up, you NEED to purchase this book as well:Setting the Records Straight: How to Craft Homeschool Transcripts and Course DescriptionsBy: Lee BinzJust remember when you are done with these two books to re-list them here on Amazon or at a Homeschooling Book Fair or somewhere or someone who is homeschooling because even the parents teaching need a guide.

Easy Reader
This book was easy to read and divided into segments that allowed for user-friendly access. I have referred to it numerous times since I received it and would recommend it to those homeschool parents facing the teen years. The best part of the book was the resources at the end of each section. It helped me see what parts in our curriculum needed improvement and which parts were right on target.

Great starting point.
I am still not finished reading it all the way through, but I have already noticed a lot of the links are Christian based. If you are homeschooling for this particular religion, then this book is great for you. If you are of another faith, or simply trying to remove a religious bias from your curriculum then this book does not have as many resources as you may want. However she is very understanding and supportive of trying to take this on yourself so I still give it a 5 star rating. I am trying to teach my son to respect diversity, so the specific religion links are not what I was looking for. Although she does a wonderful job of not showing any particular bias towards any certain homeschooling style or religion in her writings. I liked her way of pointing out the positives and the negatives to whichever style of teaching you decide to take on from a very realistic point of view. I love that there are excerpts from real families undertaking this as well!

I found no useful ideas. Waste of money
I don't understand how people can find this book helpful, especially those reviews after 2010. It was published in 2000 and is completely outdated. I found no useful ideas. Waste of money. To be fair this was probably a good book in the year 2000... but even then I expected more information and less survey results.

A great read
This has been a most informative book on homeschooling teens. One reviewer noted that some of the information was outdated, but I found that not to be necessarily true. As a teacher, I always reflect, research, and look for new ways to improve on the old. Most of what was in this book was solid advice, and one should always do his homework before taking anyone's word as truth. The best thing about this book was the author brought up some things I had never considered before. To me, that makes this book worth reading.

A lot of great info. Maybe it needs a 2016 revision
Well, unfortunately this book is getting outdated, but it is well-written and very reassuring for soon-to-be homeschoolers. Basic message: Yes, you CAN do it, and you can do it your way and succeed. A lot of great info. Maybe it needs a 2016 revision.

Great Book!
This book has helped me to "move on" in the education of my teenage son. I have come across lots of helpful ideas. It has challenged me to think about the way I educate my teenage son, to set goals and to include him in a big way in his education as we talk about his studies and where he wants to go. I wish I had read this book 10 years ago when I had other teens at home.
