Well I got this week ago. As far as a safe goes it seams to be just that, safe! However here are some of my complaints.1.The lock is a bit loud. If you are looking to be super quiet when opening the safe it will be difficult.2. The lid opens so far that the whole thing wants to flip back. It don't flip back but it will rock back and scare you and make you think it's going to flip back. With that being said I guess if the lid didn't open up that far I would be complaining the lid does not open far enough.3. It is huge! Not sure if this is good or bad for you. Be sure you look at the specs. For me this was bad. I wanted to put it on my nightstand. And it is huge. I think its too big to have on a nightstand. I did not look st the specs when I bought it.This is definitely a five-star safe because it is just that, a safe. It functions well, is extremely heavy duty and works nice. The flaws I've mentioned are my own personal preferences.

this box is certainly very well constructed and rugged...5 stars for the boxthe lock is less than ideal....i found it very difficult to change the combo following the instructions provided.... the button that must be depressed to change the combo was difficult to use...i'm glad i won't be changing combos often....the quality of the foam padding in the box should have been better considering the cost of the box, i torn the foam in the combo changing process....overall, a fine choice so long as you understand the security limitations of simplex locksupdate; i should have been more skeptical when i had some much trouble setting the new combo...this lock is clearly not working...my new combo works once every fifty or so tries...very unsatisfied..need to make a warranty claim or return this item...changing review to one star

The combo reset is a little confusing, but love the box.

The box is nice and heavy and I have no problem with the lock it works great. Only thing I don't like is the handle that I will remove. Why do I want a handle that makes it more convenient to steal?

I'm a security professional and decided to purchase this container to see if it is as tough and secure as proclaimed to be. There are many products out there that attach the word "safe" to a container that is nothing more than a metal box with a cheap lock. The general public doesn't know the difference...but being in the security business for almost 20 years, I know the difference and so do others in my profession. The AMSEC PS1210HD by its own merits earns the word "safe" to its description. If you carry it by the handle while EMPTY you'll find it hard to believe it's not filled. Bolt it to the floor and you can feel confident that you've done your due diligence in properly protecting your property. It's not fire-rated but IS in many categories the most impressive, well build and user-friendly pistol box you'll find. A fantastic product!Update: As of 2015, a combination change button has been added to the updated version. Rather than having to insert a small tool into the combination change hole, AMSEC has added a physical push-button. The addition of this certainly makes changing the combination less arduous.

This safe is heavy, but does not last. Lock fails and becomes inaccessible. Save your money

Upon opening the first thing I noticed was the foam glued to the lid was not lined up right so the foam catches on the lip when you close the lid and this got me to looking closer at how it was attached.In so doing I noticed the lock bolt was rattly, can be wiggled around quite a bit in the locked position but it seemed it did not stick out so far in locked position. So I got out the caliers and made some measurements. What I found was the bolt only overlaps the lip on the housing by at most 0.051" (51 thousandths) or less than 1/16". I say at most because the bolt comes out at a slight angle so the shorter side only overlaps .006". Just for reference 50 thousandth of an inch is 1/3 the thickness of the 10 gauge housing steel.This 1/16 is probably ok to keep the safe closed unless you went to town on it with a sledge or something but I think for all the cost that went in to the metal thickness, and hinges and hooks under the back , etc the bolt on the lock should engage more securely. Say like 1/4" or so. Maybe mine is defective in that regard.If the foam was put on properly I may have never noticed it. This will be going back and I will try the fort knox version. I chose this one because wanted the handle but could always add a handle to either FK or Stealth,. Was really hoping this would work out but for the money I can't get past the bolt protrusion. For some reason I thought I saw it was shipped in an outer plain box, probably my mistake. But now the UPS guy knows there are firearms, thanks. Just what you want 2 miles up a dirt road.The interior styrofoam was pretty well broken into pieces during shipping, but still I think protecting the contents, there were no outer scratches or chips on the exterior paint, only a small chip where the front inside of lid contacts the front right corner.It is a very nice looking, heavy and seemingly well constructed box with a nice paint job, but little confidence it can fulfill its main purpose. Oh one more thing, the lock buttons stick a bit, I don't know if this would be an issue or not.

When you get a hold of this in person, you realize the difference. 24lbs of solid constuction. The paint job is gorgeous. It did not come with the American Security decal shown but rather a black plastic name badge similar to what is put on their larger safes. It is much nicer than the decal. It is a shame this will be tucked away. Quality is top-notch. Love that I never have to change a battery.
