Good for the Curious
This is the piece-de-resistance of how to be an arrogant observant Lubavitcher, Horrible. First chapter teaches the vulnerable that non-jews souls originate in the same supernal realm as unclean spirits and demons. Then goes on about a particular group being superior on every level and that even if that group murders or more, they're righteous over non-jew who is near perfect. This book is awful. Pure venom.Glad I didn't fall for the teachings of this group on my journey towards Judaism.

Wish I had read it sooner, but all things are for a reason.
Reading this opens new sanctums within the spiritual mind and heart. It is rewarding to see the ways in which life vibrantly flows through both animate and inanimate objects all around us. There are two sides to us all, an internal war, which captures many people off guard. Knowledge is power, and this reading will assist in identifying the realms around you. It is helpful to have a background in the zohar (I did not). What has been helpful is my prior reading of the Book of Enoch, Book of Jasher, the Emerald Tablets and the Sephir Yetziroth. The point being, this book stretches to be a bridge between itself and many other works. Truly fascinating, truly a privilege.

A classic of chassidic thought
The magnum opus from the "Alter Rebbe" of the Lubavitch chassidic movement which describes a particular Jewish view of human nature and personal sanctification. The author's contrast of the spiritual characteristics of the Jew as against the gentile has led to accusations of racism. To the modern mind some discussions might seem quaintly dated where they appear to conflict with established scientific knowledge. However in the Chabad tradition these are non-issues, since a wealth of practical wisdom and spiritual guidance is there to be gleaned from the pages. This is the classic translation, however a more up-to-date edition may already have been published. The binding seems rather more fragile than ought to be for a work of this stature.

Deep and wide and...
Not only important because it is a fountainhead of certain spiritual paths and movements but its provocative-evocative opening of personal paths for readers this moment. A generative work that keeps giving.Michael EigenAuthor, Kabbalah and Psychoanalysis, The Birth of Experience, The Sensitive Self, The Challenge of Being Human

Surprised by beautiful quality.
One seldom finds such beautifully manufactured books anymore. Just exquisite cloth, binding and printing. Well matched to the subject. Sits flat on a desk, for ease of reading.

Wonderful to have bi-lingual version
I have recently become interested in the Tanya as I have become more religious. However, I could not read it since I am not fluent in Hebrew. Therefore, I was happy to discover a bi-lingual edition of the Tanya. I am reading portions of it now every day.

Wonderful translation and notes
Wonderful translation and notes. Big improvement over earlier version. Cover beautiful but picks up any dust or hair like a magnet for dirt.
