They are sturdy, thick plastic
These bags seem to work really well. I have been taking them into grizzly and black bear country with no issues so far. They are sturdy, thick plastic. All you have to do is put your food/ smelly items in it, twist up the top into a tail, and put the yellow clip on it to seal in the smell. I am using the smaller bags inside a stuff sack for a bear bag to hang food and keep the odors down. I have been using the X-Large size bags for keeping extra food/ smelly stuff in the car safe when we take off hiking back country for a while. Hoping it will reduce the chances of a bear smelling some stored food in the car and busting a window or something, as I have seen before. I like these bags a lot more than the big zippered bags. For one, The big zippered bags are heavy and stiff, whereas these can fit a lot more in them. Secondly, the zippered bags I have tried before start to crack and split along the sides, making them useless. These bags are pretty tough and won't rip if you are careful with them. I have been able to reuse them for quite a few trips, just recycle them at a grocery store once they wear out!

Work well as an odor barrier
I am not an expert, but this seemed more reasonably priced than some alternative bags. I threw some fresh raw hamburger in one of the bags and carried it past my Labrador Retriever and my Schnauzer at their feeding time. They had no interest. I tried it again with a different brand, and they started jumping. They certainly seem to be an odor-barrier.

Worked for us in Glacier NP!
I brought two of the XL sacks to store ~28lbs of food at Glacier NP over 6 nights. One sack was insurance in case I had issue with first... I generally use a bearcan for food storage, but Glacier prefers hanging smellables. As I packed 28lbs into one of these sacks, I felt it had good durability for a plastic sack. The food we packed was mostly freeze dried, and packed into individual ziplock bags. I was careful to not have anything sharp in contact with these bags. The seams are pressed together well to ensure they match the tensile strength of the rest of the bag. Before hanging, we removed air, then twisted the neck to ~.5" prior to using a provided yellow clamp for locking shut. A slip knot was cinched under the clamp, and it was hoisted! We had good weather, so the bag wasn't tested under stress from high winds. Animals weren't a problem as I believe it provides the odor barrier advertised, and it was out of reach (except for flying squirrels, which I heard could be a problem, but we didn't experience). Direct sun will heat the contents, but this wasn't a concern for us with food we carried. Much lighter, less expensive, and form-fitting than a bearcan! I recommend it! Check out my pic. I'd use it again!

On a funny note, when we were getting ready for this ...
I use these bags for odor shielding and waterproofing bags in my hiking pack. We backpack with a very food driven large dog. I've never had him be the least bit interested in the food in our packs when it's packaged in these. This year, we packed all the food in these and used a separate one for our clothes. The first day of backpacking we literally got rained on all day. Our clothes were bone dry in these bags. On a funny note, when we were getting ready for this trip, I pulled out the stack of med sized bags we used last year. They were folded, not sealed, and I shook one open to take out the yellow clips from the bottom. The inside of the bag had the overwhelming smell of campfire smoke. Couldn't smell it until I shook open the bag. Keep in mind that it had been 8 months since our trip with these particular bags.

Odor proof, indeed.
You can reuse the crap outa these. Hows this for a review. I was nobo on the Appalachian trail starting feb 21st 2016 and finished up oct 8. During this time i only used two of these for my food bag- for the ENTIRE TRIP. 1 week in i sent my bear vault back home and just stuck with this inside of a cuben fiber food bag (zpacks). Not once did a critter get into my food or even want to investigate (including the nosey dogs of fellow hikers)

Definitely blocks odors, seem sturdy, but a little pricy.
I like that these really seem effective at blocking odors. I used them on a Cub Scout camping trip and we amassed some aromatic trash. When I twisted and sealed the bag with the clip, even putting noses up to the bag we couldn’t smell anything. However, even the larger size is smaller than a stretchy kitchen sized bag, and they are not inexpensive. We had 5 scouts and 6 adults having lunch, snacks and dinners of foil packet chicken and burgers (meaning we produced a lot more trash than usual that needed to be in an odor proof bag) - we practically stuffed the bag full. On a typical overnighted, it would have been fine for 12 people having three meals plus snacks. Overall, I think they’re pretty sturdy and definitely perform as promised and I’ll be ordering them again.

These bags really work!
These bags are durable and they really work as advertised. I tested these in my back yard with one of the BaseCamp bags and a regular zip lock bag, put the same food items in each bag, placed them on the ground about 5 feet apart and left them overnight. In the morning, the zip lock bag had been drug across the yard and ripped apart, but the BaseCamp bag was completely untouched. Great product.

I hate bear cans
Use this for backpacking and mountaineering. I hate bear cans, they're so bulky and heavy -- aside from more casual camping trips or places where they enforce cans (e.g. Yosemite), I'd rather take a lighter setup.I go with a PCT hang using this inside a reg sack. Never had a bear incident with that setup thus far. Course that's not necessarily proof it works, but on a few high sierra bivvies, with no trees large enough to hang, just hiding this behind/under rocks, even no problems with rodents or otherwise trying to get into it so I assume it at least works on some level.
