Intense and passionate story filled with twists and turns that's not to be missed!
The Jackal was absolutely epic! Everything around me melted away as I got lost in this world, caught up in the emotion, pain, and passion. It was incredibly intense and I hung on every detail and loved how it was woven together with an incredible build. It blew me away!I loved meeting The Jackal, he completely fascinated me. I felt for him and I had so many questions about some of his choices. There were so many emotional moments with him and it was heartbreaking at times learning what he had endured. Nyx was phenomenal. She had this amazing strength and determination in her that I adored. The two together were fantastic, they had an instant connection and yet they pushed each other's buttons with these great dry barbs creating awesome friction. I loved that attraction and pull between them. I loved learning The Jackal and Nyx’s history and motivations, there was such an exceptional build to those growing details. Twist after twist I was on the edge of my seat, hooked!I loved Rhage in this story and learning the connection he had to The Jackal. I really liked learning more about his past and what he was like before the Brotherhood truly came together. It was such a different version of him and it's amazing how much he's grown and changed, it made me incredibly happy. I also liked that Darius was involved and The Jackal's connection to him as well as some of the other brothers.I loved the flow of the POVs and that back-and-forth storytelling of past and present. I loved all the dots connected and those details colliding. This story was filled with so much depth and so many layers and I loved having them all peeled back. I loved the action, drama, and heat. There were some really excellent characters introduced as well and I loved all the different bonds and connections. The prison itself was incredibly detailed and I was intrigued by all the different dynamics within it. I am very excited about where the series will go and can't wait for the next book. This was thrilling to read and I had such a sense of urgency to find out everything. It was intense and passionate and heartbreaking and I hung on every word as all the details unfolded, culminating into a fantastic ending that was absolutely perfect!

Awesome again from JR Ward
A little slow at the start of the book, but the rest of the book more than made up for it. Another great book by JR Ward. This book is so different than the rest of them, a whole new setting. Prison life as you could never imagine. Nyx just wants to find her sister who was imprisoned 50 years ago. When she finds the secret passage that leads her to the prison, she runs into someone known as The Jackal, or Jack, as she calls him. He knows she is the one destined to be his, but she can never be his. She is there to find your sister, and he will help her just to get her out into safety. So many surprises, so much danger, and lies. To be honest it takes a lot to surprise me in a book, I am pretty good at figuring things out. But this book had me gasping at the information that was discovered by the characters. And as the love grew between Nyx and Jack, the danger seem to increase. The commander of the prison has a real hold on Jack and a connection to Nyx. Great story, steamy scenes, and a fight for survival. Great Ending. Love seeing Rhage make appearances.

Enjoyed it BUT
Honestly, this is a 3.5 rounded up. The story was great. It was very cool to see a fresh new plot in this world. I LOVED the whole secret prison camp thing, and Jack is a great character. But I seriously had to deduct points for Nyx being one of the most stupid heroines I have ever had the misfortune to read about. From practically the beginning she does things that should have killed her (she gets saved repeatedly by big strong guys, so I guess it’s ok??!! 🙄) and without giving away spoilers, she doesn’t put the most obvious 2 plus 2 together for so long that I was practically screaming at my kindle in frustration at what an idiot she is. This idiocy is actually something that nearly gets Jack killed. I think one of the things that most bothers me about TSTL characters is that they feel fake and contrived-particularly when the author goes to pains to “tell you” this character is the responsible, practical sister- then she throws the character under the bus in order to move the plot in the direction she wants, without regard for what a practical or reliable person would actually do. When Nyx decides to break into the prison to find her sister, she does so with no recon, zero plan for how to find her or how she was getting out. Given that the council has been disbanded and she believes her sister is innocent, a sensible person would have sent an appeal to the king for a retrial or for the king to investigate this prison camp that is being run illegally without oversight. Does she do any of this? No. She straps on a backpack full of weapons and breaks into the prison and should have died 20 times over. And she deserved to bite it. Because DUH.The fact that she was someone it was impossible to like or respect made this not one of my favorites. However, if you can manage to ignore nonsensical timelines that don’t mesh with the rest of the BDB books, some minor plot holes and Nyx’s absurd behavior and lack of cognitive function, it actually was a pretty fun read. There is lots of action and the story moves at a pretty good clip.If you enjoy Ward, it’s worth a read, particularly since it is looking like it is the start to a series with some of the other prisoners, as well.

Excellent
Book itself arrived in good condition. The story was great, engaging and fast-paced, with all the wonderful twists and heat between the characters that you can expect from Ms. Ward. And what an exciting entry into a whole new aspect of the BDB world. Can't wait to read more about the secondary characters that were introduced.

Ondergronds
Deze recensie is in het Engels omdat ik het boek las in het Engels. The location of the prison camp is a huge secret, but by accident Nyx finds it. She wants to know what happened to her sister who is serving time there. She goes down and gets in lots of trouble, but also gets help from the Jackal. He knows his way under the ground and has his reasons not to leave the prison.Nyx discovers her sister is death and next is trying to get her out a new mission. In this very short time the attraction between the Jackal and Nyx burns bright. They can't resist it.I can't tell more, because if I do I have to give away spoilers, but if you like the Black Dagger Brotherhood series, I am sure you will like this book very much too.

Loved it...
This is a new series in the BDB universe, well written, excellent characters, didn't care for Nyx, loved the Jackal! It confussed me a little in the flashbacks, I felt like too much words and not so much story, i can see is for the benefit od new readers who just start there and don't know about tje BDB, i do but i would love to learn more about Darius, its like ms Ward doesn't want to tell us about him.It was a great story, i'm looking forward for the next, hope to ser the other guys having their happy ending.C.
