A Useful- and Interesting- Accounting Book?!
I never, in a million years, thought I'd be writing a five star review of an accounting book, especially given the fact that I hated accounting in college. But I guess that's exactly why I am writing this review: because this book has changed the way I think of accounting.I'm a self-employed consultant and a very visual learner who is easily confounded when it comes to numbers. I tried some other accounting books such as The Accounting Game and the Dummies Guides, but I still found myself no more knowledgeable about accounting than I was in college. Which isn't saying much. However, this year I thought I'd give it another shot when I stumbled across this guide and I'm so glad I did. This Color Accounting system appeals to my creative nature with its vivid colors, graphics, charts and financial narratives. It's also a nice, large workbook size. And even though this system is apparently lauded by accounting experts, I found it to be highly accessible. (And, dare I say, fun to use?) The author does a great job of systematically developing accounting concepts from start to finish using a variety of learning tools. And he uses very straightforward explanations so I can- finally- get it!I'm now putting my financial records in working order and it feels great.

If you want to learn accounting, read this book first.
Having never taken a single class on accounting ever, and left to figure out how to balance a checkbook on my own, I found I was flat-out terrified of the subject. And because of that fear, I never learned how to read numbers on a financial statement. So I let years go by pretending all those columns of numbers with the esoteric names next to them meant something whenever I was handed a financial report at work. The thought of actually learning accounting to me felt heavy, oppressive, and cumbersome. But then one day I decided to start an eBay business, and that made me determined to push through my fear so I could use and understand Quickbooks effectively to be able to use that accounting program properly—especially when it came time to account for my income and expenses during tax time. At that point it slowly dawned on me that accounting was probably THE most important key to the new skills I needed, and the one critical tool I was still missing.I started reading every book I could get my hands on with the word “Accounting” in the title. Then after reading five books on the subject, and still unsatisfied with what I had learned, I stumbled across the Color Accounting system in a book written for beginners like me called COLOR ACCOUNTING: THE NEW GRAPHICAL SYSTEM THAT MAKES UNDERSTANDING ACCOUNTING EASY AND QUICK.I read it cover-to-cover, and couldn’t be happier with what I learned. In fact, I should have started with this book in the first place, and would recommend anyone wanting to learn accounting themselves to do the same.Unlike the other books, this one showed me how to sit down with a list of financial transactions and a messy stack of receipts, and plot them out accurately onto a Balance Sheet and Income Statement to see where my business stood financially. The COLOR ACCOUNTING book teaches you through clear and simple examples. It easily and efficiently progresses you from learning about the overall structure and language of the basic framework for accounting to the fourteen “classic” transactions you are most likely to come across and use. It was the one resource that got me to understand the big picture of accounting and business, and helped me begin mastering my understanding of where the numbers all belonged. For the first time I was no longer afraid of accounting. In fact I was excited about it, and could see its full potential. Looking forward, I knew I would be able to now harness and use this discipline I didn’t think I would ever get a solid grasp on.And honestly, at the end of the day, I couldn’t possibly be more excited about COLOR ACCOUNTING.

Excellent for anyone wanting to be able to have a broad and new understanding of the financials
This is an excellent concept and read in order to help people without (and to be honest some with) accounting experience. As everyone involved in any B2B situation needs to increasingly understand the financial implications to the other organisation of their offering or relationships, it is critical that they understand what makes the organisation tick from a numbers point of view. The ideas in this book and the tools and concepts make an illogical concept easy and logical.Keith

Accounting isn't so scary after all!
I'm not great with numbers and was intimidated by the concept of learning accounting. When a friend shared this book with me, I immediately loved that there were a lot of colorful diagrams and simple explanations with point by point instructions that I could easily follow. I honestly enjoyed learning from this book and highly recommend it!

A very simple, and easy way to lean Accounting. Very well written & thought-out.
I had to wait for my Accounting results before I gave a fair review of this book.I had purchased it because I needed to find a way of understanding the basis of accounting in order to pass my module for the first year of my degree. For information purposes; I am studying Music Industry Management and Accounting is one of my modules from the Business School side of things.I thought I had an idea of how accounting worked, but sadly I didn't do so well the first time I took my test, but with determination, and willingness to try anything, I invested in this book.I did try the sample book first on my iPad and had thought that it was a useful, and different way to approach things. As I like holding physical books; I went ahead and purchased it. It came quickly; then I got stuck in.I can say, with one hand in the air...old scouts honour style, and one on my heart, that this is a fantastic book that resulted in me passing my module with flying colours! It is colourful, very simply explained, and has summary sections after each chapter that goes over what each chapter covered.I was worried about the fact that it is written with dollars, and may refer to accounting phrases that may not be relevant in the uk, but it gives examples of some other terminology that each term may be referred to, which is useful andI simply imagined each dollar sign as a pound sign and hay presto! If you are thinking of getting this book, then you might be in the same position I was in but just do it. You will not regret it at all. I can say that it is one of the best investments I have made in a very long time. And I am sure, if I remember rightly, that it didn't cost a lot either. If there is only two cons I can say about the book, is that firstly, I leant on it; resulting in one page coming out from the binding, and then the whole book fell apart. I was totally gutted, but I came up with a solution to hole punch each of the 200 or so A4 pages and file the book in a ring-binder instead. Job done!Secondly, coming to the end of the book; it explains very well how to look at and interpret the profitability and efficiency of a company but it doesn't exactly explain how to work out the ratio. It does; however, explain how to work out Profit Margin and Mark Up Percentage, but I guess it had to stop somewhere. All other important factors it covers is the main Five elements of accounting, Assets, Liabilities, Equity, Income & Expenditure. It also explains exactly, and in very easy terminology how to understand the. Balance Sheet (Statement of Financial Accounts). Income Statement and Cash Flow Statement. After finishing the book, I was extremely confident, and I will defiantly be keeping my book..or my file..as a reminder that a person with very little brain cells in this field (such as me) can accomplish something so great in less than 1 month.
