The History and Heritage of African American Churches: A Way Out of No Way

This is a excellent book about human evolution in religion, history, market competition, race and gender, power of human determination, humanity of our soul and informal education that influenced and influences life. The foundation of God in human life while fighting for dignity for all humans in a fierced battle for liberty of rights to stand on human dignity. The author did extensive historical research to provide critical analysis of how humans engaged each other from slavery, business, trade, racism, religious denomination while providing a narrative for understanding our African American story in America and the shaping of public policy regarding human race through conflict. If you have an interest in globalized economies, study of human race and how people learn about God, money, business, human use of violence as a means to wealth and how religion transformed racism into progress in human relations are hallmarks of this book. Clearly, emphasis is on the church history and religious paradigms throughout the world. However, when you read this book and you're interested in other aspects of life's studies such as music, justice, cultural evolution, religion evolution throughout the world from about 1700 to date, human competition beyond monetary bounty you'll find resources in the book. The author designed a great book that critically review human history, religion, governments and governance of people through facilitating differences etc.

Great vehicle for understanding the origins and functions of the Black church in America. Serves a novice very well!

So far I am enjoying this book.

In my search for a suitable textbook for the class I'm teaching on the history of African American churches, I stumbled on this one. I chose it initially because the copyright date is fairly recent. I ordered the Kindle version, but I am going to purchase the print copy because it is a book that I want on my book shelf for future reference and to share with others. The author has done an amazing job chronicling the history of Christianity dating back to Biblical times in Africa. I also like the fact that the book includes end-of-chapter questions that I am using for my online lectures/discussions. I have received feedback from my students that they are also enjoying the book and learning a part of history in the Christian movement of which many of them were not aware.

This book was very informative for this class. A lot of information was obtained from our professor that will be shared in our congregations. I am pleased with the selection of this book by our professor.

I wish that I had enough money to purchase this book for everyone that I know. It's that good! It's a very easy read, yet one of the most informative books I have ever read. Once you start reading, it's hard to stop. It should be a MUST READ BOOK in every High School in America.

This was a great book to use in my class as a reference book in my theological studies, learned a lot about the Black church I didn't know about and I plan to do further research of the Black heritage of Black churches. This is an excellent reference book, highly recommended.
