Indomitable: Kris Longknife, Book 18

A little repetitive
Kris Longknife has managed, somehow, to avoid becoming cookie cutter and repetitive. But this book comes very close. It is clear that Kris is not wanted where she is, she has every reason to head for the horizon and wash her hands of the whole situation. There are other mysteries to solve, other battles to fight. Admiral Santiago may have beaten the others into some form of submission but they are still out there. Then there are the Three, the advanced race that came before and left so many mysteries. Let Kris go home, the empire is doomed, let the humans hold the line at the boarder while the empire tears its self apart.

The next installment!
I think I have reviewed this series before but I am not going to do the research to check. Simply said, I have been reading the Kris Longknife series since the beginning and I am not going to stop now. Each book has new twists and turns with plots that span a universe or two. This series and the collective offshoots are my go to books whenever they show up on Kindle. If you like space opera and on going series with some great characters then go pick up the first book and see if it is your cup of tea. If you are not hooked after the first chapter than make a decision to either continue or delete it. If you choose the latter than good luck It is your choice. However, in my opinion your made a poor decision.

More of the same ... and that’s a good thing!
This is an excellent continuation of this lengthy series. This time Kris and crew are deeply embroiled in alien politics. For most of the book she’s stuck on a planet, not gallivanting around the universe, which gives the author time to prove he can write detailed ground combat scenes as enjoyable as his space battles.Politics, dirty tricks, treachery, war, family ... just another day on the job for Kris Longknife. If you enjoy this series, check out the works of Mackey Chandler, Gina Marie Wylie, K.M. O’Brien and J.A. Sutherland.

Couldn't put it down
A good read. The typos are back, however, and can distract. Many wrong words, words missing letters, and words out of order. Does anybody proof this stuff? Lots of action but no space battles. I must admit that the rampant use of Smart Metal kind of makes things too easy but it is "the future".

Kinda Boring Story Line
Seems like the book was a bunch of text recyler from other books. Not up to snuff with other KL books. In fact this is one of the few books i stopped reading and will not finish.

Love the Kris Longknife Book! Keep them Coming!
Great addition to the series! Lots of action, lots of clever schemes, and lots of fun! I love that the Trouble Grands are there and that Kris' kids are too! And of course the marvelous Nelly and her kids!

A great series
I liked the first book in the series and have looked forward to each new book as it was published. May Chris Longknife continue to save humanities’ butt and I will continue to follow her exploits and triumphs as she works her way across the cosmos.

Clash of clans
Eighteenth volume in the 'Kris Longknife' series of military science fiction adventures. This is not a jumping on point for new readers, who should go to book one 'Kris Longknife: Mutineer', instead.Regular readers of the series, read on.This volume runs for four hundred and forty eight pages. It has sixty seven chapters. There are some very mild adult moments. And a couple of bits of very mild language.Picking up from where the last book left off, Kris and her fleet have the rebel Iteeche fleets on the run. But then she gets word of potential problems back at the very centre of the empire. So back she goes to deal with it. There's a chance for a family reunion, but also the usual dangers...This far into a series, you know exactly what you will get. And you wouldn't still be with it if it didn't deliver in that respect. This one certainly does. There's the usual good mix of character and action. It does allow a few really good scenes which show Kris trying for work life balance, and the fact that that is has as much personal as military stuff is once again what makes this series so endearing. It does do a good job of well of emphasising all she has been through. The Iteeche are getting quite a three dimensional race by now, and there are some interesting sociological arguments to be had.Whilst there is nothing, because of the nature of the plot of this one, in the way of ship to ship combat, the last third of the story doesn't skimp on the action. With some well handled jeopardy before things really kick off. This does actually advance the ongoing story further than you might have expected at the start of the book, even though you can see it still being set in the Iteeche realm for a while let. And it does leave you eager to see what happens next, as well.Another very solid entry in a series that always delivers a very good read. Enjoyable stuff.Once again, given that these books are self published now, you do get one or two typos. But that's only a minor complaint. And I did have a book recently which wasn't self published and had typsetting issues, so you never know.

Kris ploughs through the aliens again
Grand Admiral Kris Longknife has been doing what the Iteeche asked her to do: winning their civil war for them. But she discovers, the Iteeche often have civil wars, and they have protocols for fighting them, and Kris is doing something different: she is winning too fast! So, she is called back to the home planet, ostensibly for her to report her progress to the Emperor, but actually to slow her down. But slowing down a Longknife is no trivial matter.Even her allies are fighting her, and she can’t fight back full throttle, as she is in the capital city, surrounded by a billion innocent civilians. Nevertheless, Kris ploughs through the aliens again. There’s maybe a little too much glee in showing off the myriad uses of Smart Metal if you have a superfast sentient snarky computer controlling it, but there are some real problems, and inventive solutions, at hand (although why the rescuers at one point didn’t try to go in from underneath, I’m not sure…). Although there are a few guns left hanging on walls unfired by the end (only the metaphorical ones, though!), there is a sort of conclusion to this part of Kris’ tale, potentially allowing for a pause. But I hope there are more stories to come.

Rules of engagement
SHe is winning and they recall her back to face a embargo against her and her embassy, interesting use of her AI, true AI, use of her resources smart metal to make sure no ones gets injured, it be interesting reading how she handles within the alien rules of acceptable force aka rules of engagement. Like us takes one with balls to act. hehe good read. One wonder who are the really the enemy, slavery and life is no much.

Back to what KL does well
Kris not spending so much time on talking to aliens and more time in defeating their plots and machinations with the help of her fleet and of course some assistance from computers and SmartMetal (tm). So this volume progresses the story line, opens up some further possibilities with changes perhaps ahead for the Iteeche way of life, as such it is an improvement in 'Commanding' and hopefully MS will manage to keep the flow going on his own.

Fast paced, plenty of action and enjoyable.
Fast paced, plenty of action and enjoyable. All of the books in the series have a decent plot and the underlying plot throughout the series has built up the main characters. Very enjoyable read.
