First, let me say that I don't write reviews. I generally have to many other demands on my time. But I had to write this one. I gave this product 5 stars in spite of the fact that my first DVD/CD drive didn't work. But prominent in the literature in the box (the usual stuff with the usual grammatical errors), was a warranty card and clear instructions how to contact the makers. I really need to say makers because there seems to be no brand name for this device, and the email contact seems to be an individual.I was very disappointed when my first player didn't work. It whirred and clicked and spun the DVD, but nothing showed up on my screen. It is really a BEAUTIFULLY DESIGNED PIECE OF HARDWARE, light and compact and I especially love the fact that it has a storage spot for the cord, as I travel a fair amount (or will again when Covid is done) and I wanted to be able to carry it easily in my backpack with out yet another entangling cord. So, I emailed "Kobe" and described the problem I was having.To my surprise I received an email back in just a few hours, suggesting that I might need a media player, and giving me some instructions on what to check. I had to email back for further instructions, and sure enough got another email right back, assuring my if it didn't work they would refund my money or send a new one with no return required. I decided to check with my local tech shop for advice on a media player, only to discover what I should have known, that I already had media players on my computer. Because I loved the design of this drive, I didn't want to give up so I told Kobe to send another one.Again to my surprise, he let me know within hours that it was on its way to me and I received it two days later. IT WORKS PERFECTLY--plug and play, no hassles. I could have used Amazon return of course, but at first I wasn't sure whether the problem was in the drive, or my computer (which is new) and I didn't want to chance ordering another one and having to send one back. And, amusingly, Kobe said they would keep sending a new one or refund my money if the 2nd one didn't work, or even a third! lol It was such a lovely experience to have a warm, personal, appropriate, and prompt response that I am glad I went with Kobe. And I love my beautiful new DVD/CD Driver, whatever the maker. I recommend it and Kobe!

Excellent and speedy CD/DVD reader and burner for the price, which was quickly identified and accessible from my Mac Mini once plugged into an available USB port. I've used the device primarily to rip and burn CDs, as well as DVDs, tasks that it performs quickly and accurately. It is lightweight, portable and relatively quiet when spun-up and in-use.Only nits that resulted in my less than perfect rating... 1) I would have prefered that the USB connection cable had been longer to accommodate access to USB ports, and locating of the device, when connecting to computers other than laptop styles (i.e. minis, towers, etc.). 2) There was an unwanted behavior, at least with my Mac running the latest version of Apple OS. When the device is left idle but still connected to a USB port, the device periodically is initiated (i.e. clicks and spins up), which when unexpected is distracting, noticeable and noisey. Obvious work-around, only plug it into a USB port when intended for use.

I remember when I bought my first SmartFriendly DVD writer at around $250. I can’t believe the low cost and high-performance trade-off that is now offered. This DVD writer is very functional. It operates as expected and has additional USB 3.1 ports on the top so you can continue normal operations without being impacted with the use of the DVD burner. I’m pleased with the product and would recommend.

Failed to use it when I tried the first time using the dock, but found the solution in the manual, that this product needs to be directly connected to the computer. Just hope my review could help other users. This product is portable and easy to use except that confusion.

I just received this about 1 hour ago and already love it. I hooked it up and used it with my MacBook and never had to use the manual no matter what type of cd or dvd I put in. Love that it is light weight and compact.Only complaint is that it is loud. Would be annoying if you were using it on a plane.

Works exactly as it should. Very happy with this purchase as I am transferring an extensive cd music library. This external drive is pretty much plug-n-play with my new computer and making the transfer simple and fast. Will update if my opinion changes.
