When you need personal light, this hands free light delivers features and practical usefulness unmatched by other portable lights. Invented and patented by ASF Lightware Solutions it features: extra wide & extra bright light from 6 LEDs, longer battery life, and an optional external Power Kit. Worn around the neck, it shines a cool & steady light for all needlework & crafts, reading, and searching a dark basement. Use it for writing journals, working, camping, and changing diapers at night. The extra bright light is helpful for those with aging eyes. A switch lets you light all 6 LEDS or just 3 LEDs. 4 alkaline AA batteries (not included) will run for 50 hours shining all 6 LEDs or 100 hours when using 3 LEDs. The longer battery runtime than other lights is especially valuable during a power outage and when traveling. This light is still bright when others have gone dim. No wonder reviewers called it the "most useful, versatile tool I've found in a while". For those with normal vision, the three accessory 4x5 inch Acrylic Fresnel (flat) magnifier lenses (2X, 4X, and 6X) make this light useful for beading, crafts, hobby work, and other tasks where, for short periods, an enlarged view with extra light is helpful. For example, fixing a dropped stitch when knitting. The Fresnel design lenses are NOT intended as a low-vision aid nor to be used for extended durations. Please note this is a LIGHT with accessory plastic lenses and does not substitute for those primarily needing or wanting magnification. The lenses attach to the Beam N Read Hands Free Light with a clip-on hinge so both light and lense are hands free. They can be placed in vertical or horizontal position. The Beam n Read family of Hands-Free Lights includes: BNR LED 3F with 3 LEDs and the BNR Orange & RED Relaxation Filters; BNR LED 6-3F with 6 LEDs and the BNR Orange & RED Relaxation Filters; and the BNR USB/AC Power Kit.

Worthless
I bought this light to use for cross stitch. The light isn’t very big and even though there are 6 LED’s on it, they don’t shine on your work when you have one of the magnifying lens attached. The lens and the light bar collide with each other making it impossible to look through the lens at your work and shine the lights in the right place. The device needs to have some kind of spacer to move it away from your chest to even have a chance to be in the right place. The lens that come with it aren’t clear. The additional kit that turns the device into an electric plug-in device is like a cellphone charger that has a wall plug with a USB port in it, then a USB cord that goes in that and a jack plug that goes into the device. The jack comes out of the light on the side that goes against your chest, so you can’t use that AC adapter and wear the device around your neck. The jack is in the way. This light/magnifier/AC adapter is a waste of money.

Nice light with one big flaw for me
This light was purchased to help me crochet darker yarns and it has worked wonders with that. My complaint on it concerns the turning off of the light. We travel a lot and I keep finding the light turning on due to the soft bag I use for my yarn. I don't see a way to keep it from being turned on inadvertently so have had to resort to removing a battery when I travel with it. Other than that, this has been great for on the go crocheting when there isn't the correct kind/amount of light available.

Yes, but.... Device works, in theory, but fails in practice.
This device seems to be a "compromise" design, and does not sit in the position needed to do cross-stitch, as the weight of the lens tips it "forward" and you end up looking at your navel! A different design for suspension around the neck, such as a rigid frame, might be able to correct the "rotational moment" due to gravity, caused by the lens, and keep the viewing lens in the correct orientation with respect to the work-piece.

Works well for cross stitch
I’m very happy with the light. It really helps me see my needlework clearly. I use it with all 6 leds lit. The magnifiers are okay but not comfortable to use 100% of the time. It took a bit of fiddling with the neck strap length and the angle of the light to get it to shine on the fabric where I waned it. Once I made the adjustments, it worked great.

I can see what I'm doing with handwork again!
I love the Beam N Read. My friend has one and I tried it out. I think this is a totally divine light and I can't wait to begin doing hand and needle work shortly. What a difference this makes for my eyes and the ability to eqsily use the 2 power, 4 power and 6 power magnifying accessories arae wonderful. I'm going to order the blug-in accessory to save my btteries, also.

Very Nice Product
If you think that this product is a bit pricey, just know that it is a really nice product. The light base takes four AA batteries (not included). The lights don't come on until you adjust the lights to an angle with the battery section. The switch is for moving from 3 to 6 lights and does not turn the lights on. The three magnifiers come in nice vinyl sleeves that list their magnifying strength. I think I will get a lot of good use from my Beam and Read craft light.

Great for hand sewing
I love this light as it comes with 3 lenses for magnification. I like to do counted cross stitch and I have a problem seeing the smaller weaves. This has been great at releaving my eyestrain as I can use 2x, 4x, or 6x magnification. It is also small enough for when I travel. Good quality and design!
