Craftsman 581473301 Blade Adapter

The sintered metal this part is made of is not durable enough for this application. I have had a high failure rate with this part.

This part is used by several brands and is the correct OEM part for my Blackmax mower. After I changed my mower blade, I think I unknowingly messed up the original blade adapter by over torquing the bolt. The blade adapter star shredded when I restarted the mower. I bought this part, torqued everything to 40 ft lbs (per the book) and it's perfect, no issues and I don't expect any.

The fit is perfect. Just wish it didn’t wear out so easily. Doesn’t take much to break off the tabs that hold the blade. Unless you have a perfectly flat smooth lawn to mow keep a spare on hand.

I bought this after i realized that the 'star' used to hold the blade in place had been damaged (apparently I had hit something with the blade; this is a protective device to reduce the transfer of impact to the engine's crankshaft). I was pleased to get it as I understand that Husqvarna (who made the Craftsman mower I have is no longer going to manufacture replacement parts. Hopefully some other manufacturer will fill the void.

Defective or Poor Design ??? The internal key (a metal tab for those that do not know) sheared the moment I stated the engine. I am processing a return and will try a replacement in case the 1st one was defective.NOTE !!!! I do also now see that other recent reviewers are writing that their pulley had metal failure immediately on starting the engine or soon after !! I seem fortunate that only the shear pin failed immediately with no other damage, but others seemed to have damaged their mower. If t his replacement part has too soft a metal and is flying apart, this is DANGEROUS !Also, the design of this is not exactly as the original part. The internal shaft area is more hollowed out, leaving less contact area with the engine shaft... perhaps in an attempt o save a few pennies of aluminum on each unit.I am now a little concerned about even trying a replacement.

this is the second won that we purchased. We have several of these lawn mowers, Craftsman for many years. This time, we ordered two of them to have one handy when needed, even though the order came the next day.

Pleasantly surprised that it fit. The old part had the same number as this new one and it fit perfectly. Kept me from buying another mower.
