Medium-Dark roast lacks resemblance to Guatemalan qualities
Medium-Dark roast lacks resemblance to Guatemalan qualitiesI purchased this coffee for a trial tasting before buying green beans to home roast. The appearance of the roasted beans is a mix of small, medium, large and extra large sizes. (Measured they would be 5.5 to 8 mm screen sizes but only green coffee is screened, and green beans expand when roasted.) I munched on the different sizes of bean (hobby coffee chew a few beans immediately after a roast) and the taste of each size was noticeably different. My impression was that too many of the smaller beans were picked prematurely. The roast color is a uniform medium-dark; I was expecting and would have preferred a blend of medium and dark roasts. The beans do have nice patches of oily sheen. Drip filter brewed there is a too strong and bracing foretaste; this sensation causes the somewhat acceptable back palate flavor to have an unpleasant after-taste.In comparison I just roasted a Guatemala Huehuetenango purchased on Amazon from RhoadsRoast Coffee, it’s between good and very good with a balanced taste and smoothness not quite as full bodied or nuanced with favor notes as I would like but a good every day cup. I’ve found the same or slight better qualities in several of their other green beans and other Amazon vendors: Primos Nicaraguan, Heirloom Coffee Brazil Adrano, several Lavanta Coffees; these vendors also also have roasted beans. All home roasters have a problem getting the same quality of bean from a vendor each harvest season even when the beans come from the same proximity (weather, 3rd-world politics, etc). You would think a direct from farm single origin seller would provide the small roaster an average or better bean since we are a part of their market. Now this is the second time in a month that I am trashing direct from farm Guatemala coffee. They desire one star but what about the roaster?

An affordable luxury
Treating myself to some unusual coffees this month. I like this more than pure Kona and it’s a lot more affordable. Opened it this morning and my caffeine deprived brain double checked to see where the cocoa smell was coming from. A tasty cup to start the day.

Excellent Mid-morning Coffee
Beautifully even beans. I typically taste the soft chocolatey tone with a distant hint of tangerine. In comparison to some of the other roasts I've enjoyed, you can dose low with this coffee without sacrificing much flavor presence.

Guatemala Dark Roast
Nice, dark color. Excellent taste. Not bitter, but smooth. I like that it's farmer's direct. The price is very fair and the coffee is much better than most store bought varieties.

Disappointed
Sorry it's very acidic. Wish it was the rich flavor I expected. Maybe some people care for it like percolator coffee yikes. I like french press. Usually guatemala coffee is rich almost chocolate flavors.

Great taste!
I just received my order and couldn’t wait to try this coffee! I’m a big time coffee lover and have been looking for a good Guatemalan coffee. I usually add cream and sugar to make my coffee taste better but tried Kafetos coffee black and love it!This coffee is grown near my hometown and I love that this is a family owned business.

Great cup of Joe
A little pricey but it's the cost of ethically sourced coffee. Good stuff.
