Yes it's hollow, but not flimsy..... very sturdy doesn't come very sharp, be sure to get a sharpening puck to sharpen and maintain the edge

It comes with a cover for the blade. I wouldn't call it a "sheath" exactly, but it will definitely let you pack the hatchet away without worrying about an exposed blade if that's your goal.

Q: what do differences are between this and fiskars x7?

Disclaimer: I never owned an x7 but from what I can tell the material of the handle and the grip is different from the x7. The x7 had a shock-absorbing FiberComp material with a yellow non-slip surface. This model uses the newer Dura frame material with molded textured surface for a non-slip grip. For the most part the rest of the axe appears to be the same although it should be noted that this model is rated capable of handling heavier jobs up to medium-sized logs which the x7 was unable to do, so I suspect the handle balance changed the fulcrum point to allow for greater cleave without changing the overall length or weight.
