Awesome dog basket and regular errands basket!
I bought this basket to go on the rear rack of my bicycle so I cannot comment on how the basket fits/is held up in the front. However, for a rear rack, this basket is excellent. It hooks on using two clamps that are very secure, yet if you need to remove the basket, it is fairly easy to remove and does not require you to undo a bunch of straps to get it off.I also purchased this basket over other dog baskets because I can also use it to carry various other items when I go shopping. Its sturdy and strong and does the job.The basket comes with a little mat for when you have your dog in it as well as a leash clip to keep your dog from leaping out of the basket. I have a 16 lb Lhasa Apso who is too large to fit in front baskets. He fits snug as a bug in this basket and even has room to lay down.I have ridden with the protective cage, which he is fine with, but he prefers to ride without the cage because my dog likes to stick his head out to feel the wind. My dog is very calm and does not react to anything on the road, so if your dog is reactive, you may prefer riding with the cage on. The cage is very secure and takes some practice to get on and off but once you get the hang of it, it is fairly easy. All in all, it's a great rear basket that fits all of my needs and I would recommend.

Very well made
My 10 pound dog fits comfortably. It does pull down a little when mounted on the front of my bike. He can still fit his head thru the top part of the basket. A smaller dog could probably fit thru the holes and jump out but there is a short safety strap you can hook to your dog. If you want to carry groceries or stuff it is best on the back of the bike. Overall has both sturdiness and thickness to get the job done

Works good, but would use on front with a heavier dog
We were looking for a way to take our dogs biking with us (they hate having to stay home). We use to pull a child carrier, with a wire kennel in it. I came across these baskets and thought we’d give them a try.Lola (on the right) - she’s about 6 lbs and it held her perfectly. I’m glad it had a hook to attach her collar as she is small enough to slip through the basket top.Lucie (on the left) - she’s a Bischon and weighs about 12 lbs. The basket slips down with her weight or when hitting a bump. We found a large stick on our ride to wedge between the bike and basket to keep it from sliding down. We’ll permanently modify it with something else before our next outing. (I wouldn’t recommend a dog heavier than 15 lbs on the front without a bit of modification to make sure the basket doesn’t slip down.)Both dogs did great and enjoyed the ride. I’ll probably get some fabric and make a make-shift shade to attach to the basket top. I did have a small piece of foam pad to put under Lucie to make it a little softer for her. It did come with a thin piece of padding for the bottom of the basket.Having that extra weight on the front is a little tricky at the start for steering. We rode about 16 miles round trip and it was flat & straight. That’s about our normal rides, may go up to 20 miles. I don’t look forward to hills and curves on my own...not sure how it would handle with these 2 along. We are just glad that we don’t have to haul the “buggy” anymore.

The basket sits nicely on a kid's bike handlebars and the dog laid ...
Bought this for my 9 year old son and his sensitive chi-dachsund mutt. I had previously securely tied the dog in a crate to the back of my bike but it first peed all over in fear then while the bike was peddling, tried to jump out. Had concerns about this basket since a picture review showed it as being too small for a small dog and Peek-A-Boo was a rather big small dog. Agreed that the plastic gizmo that attaches to the bar was junk so I just tied the basket to my son's 20" bike with 2 regular cable ties. The basket sits nicely on a kid's bike handlebars and the dog laid calmly in the basket all 3.7 miles. The bike's hand breaks were not compromised. There's an opening in the top cage part that's wide enough for her to comfortably stick her head out but not escape out (4.75"w x 3.75'l). They even provided a thin foamy removable mat at the bottom of the cage. I checked the mat after we came home and dry as can be. Happy dog, happy owners. Oh, and the top is quickly removable. The bottom of the basket even has features to attach to the back of a bike but we prefer to ride and see our dogs at the same time so we won't be using this feature. Overall, I definitely got my money's worth and then some.

Defective product
The media could not be loaded. I’ve been interested in getting this pet basket since I saw it at my local bike shop. So when it went on sale on Amazon for almost half the price, I decided to go for it. We were really looking forward to going on bike rides with our cats. The problem is the top lid doesn’t fit into the basket. So it’s not safe for the cats because they could just jump out while we’re riding. There’s two reasons why it doesn’t fit. First the top lid is not as wide as the basket, so it doesn’t reach far enough. Second, only two of the four parts that it’s supposed to snap into work. It won’t fit into the other two snaps no matter how hard I push.I suspect they sent me the wrong lid, either for an older model or different basket altogether. But they told me they sent the correct part. So if that’s the case, then I can only wonder if the basket is defective and if their other baskets have the same problem. It’s also worth pointing out that even if the top lid fit, the bars are so wide my cats can squeeze through them.On the bright side, the bottom of the basket latched securely to my bike rack. We’ve tried a few pet baskets that fit on the handlebars, but they tend to bounce up and down. So we like how sturdy this one is when we attach it to my back bike rack.

Damaged - Not enough padding to survive shipping
Gave 2 star due to unit arriving damaged and did not work for it’s intended purpose. The seller refunded, but does not provide return label. Not only did I get a damaged unit but was not provided a return label and am out an additional $70 to return the item. Doing an exchange would not meet the date the basket was needed for. In hind sight, I just paid to waste my time. Do not recommend. The product looks and feels to be of good quality. Metal is quite soft as it was damaged in transit. The cage part is quite cumbersome to open and close, could use zip ties to keep one side from popping off.
