Take Care of Yourself, 10th Edition: The Complete Illustrated Guide to Self-Care

handy, flippable, great initial guide to what's going on medically
15 or 20 years ago, I spotted the sixth edition of this book in a used bookstore and over the last couple decades, when my wife or I were having some sort of health episode, we'd refer to the book and found it to be helpful in understanding what was happening, how to treat it (or when to have a professional treat it), etc.We had occasion to use the book recently for something my wife was experiencing and afterward, we thought that it might be worth checking to see if there exists a newer version and sure enough, we're up to the tenth edition!Given that many of us have access to countless medical resources at our fingertips, could we jump online and gather the same information? Probably. But sometimes, it's nice to have info in-hand, flip around, get an initial assessment and then dive deeper into the concept online and that's about how we've used it a couple dozen times in the last decade or two. (There's also a plus of not having to figure out which medical site is better than the others.)In reading some reviews, I see that some readers aren't thrilled with some pieces of the content and I'm sure that given enough time and reading, I'd feel the same way, so I don't want to devalue their experience. However, for our "I'm feeling X; I wonder what it probably is" experiences, I think it's been perfect for us and we keep it tucked next to our first-aid stuff so that we always know exactly where it is. We also have a friend who is homeless and I plan to give him a copy since he doesn't have access to the same kinds of medical-help resources that we do.

Awesome reference
We used to give this book out to patients a long time ago. Easy to read instructions and guidance. I bought one for my college kid who keeps seeing the campus doctors for things she can remedy on their own. Send with a first aid kit/generic meds as a college/first place gift.

Really helpful book. Very practical, no-nonsense information about when do you need to go see a doctor (or get to the hospital), and when and how you can just treat something at home. We've used it for colds, bee stings, removing a tick, and treating blisters.

Indispensable
This self-help home medical book has been around for nearly forty years. It employs a logic-tree format so users can analyze severity of ailments and where/how to seek help for them. Every household should have one, and the newer the edition, the better.

Healthy Fats --- Canola, Soy... Really?
I bought the Audible version, and immediately viewed the accompanying pdf. In the dietary advice section on healthy fats to consume, I saw Canola... Soy. Research leads me to believe that neither of these yield healthful benefits (you can research and find out for yourself). So, since I saw that, I figured the rest of the advice in the book might not be something I'd follow.
