actually ended up really liking this textbook and kept it for myself and didn't return it. It's extremely informative and detailed without being complicated to understand. It's laid out really well and easy to follow, full of interesting information. i needed it for a Bio class in college and thought i would eventually return it like usual but decided to keep it for my own, and I actually want to re-read it for my own personal benefit. One of the better textbooks, and I really recommend it if bio/esrm is an interest.

This biology book is fantastic. It's easy to read, and has a TON of good information. I went to a college that used this book, then took a higher level bio (physiology) class at a different school, and let me tell you my Bio knowledge gave me a huge advantage over the other students. And this is without any science background until just recently.Basically, what I'm trying to say is that if your teacher made you buy this book, then they probably actually care about your education more than letting publishers bully them. Not that this publisher is a small fry or anything, but you get the point.

As far as textbooks go, this one was extremely helpful. It's organized in a way that an early level biology student can understand but with enough detail that the book can be used later on in your educational career. It's very easy to follow and I've used it several times since passing the class it was required for. Would recommend it.

You're probably just assigned to get this book and don't really care about the review, but it is a good textbook, one of the very few that I actually read in college. It's probably worth the investment just in case you get a crummy professor and need to learn the material on your own. There is a 10th edition of this book, but the information is practically the exact same so if you have a choice, go with the cheaper option. This is a length book and the binding can be fragile so just be careful to not put it under too much physical strain.

This is a required textbook in many colleges, and it's no surprise: concise, complete and extremely detailed, with many contributors involved with its creation, this is undoubtably the most complete biology textbook ever written for undergraduates.And it is BIG, too. Strike that, this is MASSIVE! Easily around 15-20 lbs., only young backs could possibly lug this to class (which I do not recommend. Read it at home before class, like you're supposed to.NOTE: If you're expecting to get any money back on this after the semester's done, DO NOT BUY THE LOOSELEAF EDITION. It may be more convienent to have the ability to just take a chapter or two to class, most colleges / universities WILL NOT BUY THESE EDITIONS BACK. Fair warning.

The writing possesses no excitement for the topic and the organization of the content is fragmented. The authors also lack the ability to predict even the most natural and logical questions that students might have during the reading of their book. I was too often left wanting and asking for more information or explanation that I knew would never come.Writing aside this book does provide basic information on the topic of biology on a level appropriate for first or second year college students

Loved the price to rent this textbook for my biology class. It is the same thing and same diagrams as the 10th Edition (compared side by side with another student) the pages are just slightly off by one or two, not bad at all. Do not waste your money on the 10th Edition when the 9th is a lot cheaper to rent and is practically the same thing.

I expected that this biology would include more coverage of human functional and structural anatomy and physiology, but I was disappointed to find this absent.
