worked good in my small pond
Put this in my 50 gallon pond last winter. Stood it on a rock up so it was a couple inches below the water. Even in single digit temps in Iowa, the water around it did not freeze. My pond goldfish survived beautifully. Will use again this winter!

Works way better than the blue tank deicer
I replaced the standard blue floating tank deicers with this product. All I needed was to keep a small hole in a koi pond through the winter. This works great for that purpose. The pond will freeze over solid but with this heater that gas exchange hole stays and fish are happy. Not as heavy duty as the blue tank deicers. Easier on the circuit though. But If I needed to keep a water trough from freezing over for animals to drink out of, this product would not be suitable for the task.

Had two, each failed in under a month
I live in Northern Nevada and have a small pond and waterfall that I wanted to keep running during the winter months for both the birds and just the beauty during of the waterfall during snow storms. I wanted to make sure the pond didn't freeze over or cause my pump to struggle and potentially become frozen as well. Being a small pond, I chose the 750w model to keep everything from freezing. When it worked, it worked well. It kept my little 300 or so gallon pond and waterfall from freezing even in temperatures down to 5 (F) degrees. Then one morning, woke up and the waterfall had stopped. The unit had triggered the GFI outlet. I let the unit dry out, cleaned off any deposits and put it back in the pond. However, it still tripped the GFI outlet. I sent back to Amazon and got a replacement. Within 30 days, the same thing happened again. Pictures show that the metal heating element seemed to have split. Don't know if that's what's shorting it or not, but it will no longer work. When it worked, it worked well - but both lasted less than 30 days each. If it lasted, this would be a 5 star item because of the low electrical requirement and how well it kept the pond from freezing.Note: Make sure that you purchase a GFI outlet for this item. I did just to make sure no one got hurt in case this thing shorted. The GFI did the trick and tripped the circuit when this thing shorted. As my kids play around the water (even in the winter), I wanted to make sure than no one got shocked or killed as a result. If you do get one, PLEASE make sure you get a small GFI plug adapter to use with this as a safety precaution. For those of you who get one that lasts, congrats. I am just not willing to go for a third try with this item.

Support line from co helpful
I had to have a message into the support line for the company. They called back, gave me helpful tips.I have 250 w for two years now and never experienced foam, still working. 750 w did give foam/ ice. Was worried, here its the foam air bubbles from the minerals in the water that fill up the space in the middle not that the foam ring had melted. It was bright white for me so it was easy to mistake. Took it out and the ice/air bubbles went away. Foam ring fine. Now its getting less and less the more I use it. They gave me a tip to put it in the slowest moving water area of the pond. I did as best as could and it keeps it open. Wish the cord was longer or comes with different cord length options. They do need to update the manual because it really is not helpful.

Lasted nearly 5 years
Reordered after original finally developed an issue that continually tripped my GFI. The original did the trick for almost 5 years... if this lasts as long, I'll be happy

Saved my fish
Bought this before the temperature dropped below freezing. The product kept the water warm for my koi fish. The product was simple to use. Very durable. Easy to clean. No noise when on. Also it came on and off when it reached a safe temperature for the fish. The cord was long enough to reach the ponds. Didn’t bother the fish at all. The quality of the product was well worth the price. Did shop around for this type of product and was shocked with the price and how well it worked. I found nothing wrong with it. Absolutely no complaints

Be prepared for it to stop working -- better have a spare on hand!
When the product works, it's great. But I've now retired three in short order. They malfunctioned -- I'm not sure what was wrong with them -- and kept tripping my GFCI. Fortunately, I have two units in my pond, so when one malfunctioned, at least I had another one going to keep the koi from freezing! I thought it best to throw the malfunctioning ones out ... it's not worth risking a fire. Better buy them in threes, with two in the pond and one as a spare to plop in when one of the two in the pond stops working!

so far I am impressed
I was worried about reviews but so far this has worked perfectly and since i bought the 1500 watt item I was wondering if it would be enough for my pond that is a 15x15 liner and 30 inches deep. not sure how many gallons exactly but if i just leave the thing on all the time the pond does not have any ice except where it flows down the rocks. this got me wondering how much electricity it uses and i attached it to a plug that i can look at from my smartphone and see how many hours a day it is actually drawing power. I have since started to run it 30 minutes an hour and it keeps the pong half clear and half ice. So hope this helps...i believe the device is able to turn itself on and off to keep the water above freezing temperature but if you lift it out of the water while it is on you will see just how hot this thing gets! it actually can burn off the scale or mineral deposits from the pond by doing this. I like this very much but i am now buying the 750 watt item for my small barrel at my main home (the 1500 watt is running at my second home) so far I can not see any way that this would break and i have been using it for 2 months in denver winter. If it breaks i will update if not i typically do not come back to my reviews. oh by the way do not touch this to see if it is working! :) it is crazy hot even in the water but out of the water it heats up so hot it burns off the scale and you can gently poke the layer off or just dip it in the water a few times and the water will knock the layer right off and it looks like brand new again! I use it floating but it can be used at the bottom if you want by simply unscrewing the top part that has the floating device, you can unscrew it without any tools. I like that. my goldfish likes to hang out around the warm water so i make sure to keep it in the middle away from the raccoons reach :)

Greatest addition to my pond
This is a replacement for a previous heater. works great and the fish love it. keeps my small pond free of ice even at -12 and more. Suggest cleaning it at end of season before putting away. That's reason for replacing. It was put away while still a lot of build-up on coil. Caused corrosion and pin holes when dry and in shed. Then of course would trip the GFI. I would recommend this item if you have a fish pond. Very well worth the money

Not for the UK or Europe
This was advertised on Amazon UK for sale. When it arrived and I unpacked it, I saw it had a US plug on the end. I thought, 'Not a problem, I'll just rewire a UK 3-pin plug'. However, upon looking at the box, it said that it was 120v, which is the US voltage and not 240v, which we have in the UK. I thought I must have missed this on the Amazon page and so went back and checked. Nowhere in the description does it state that it is only 120v and so I assumed that as it was being advertised and sold in the UK, it would be UK voltage of 240v. Do not waste your time and money if you live in the UK and/or Europe.

First one lasted 10 years! UPDATE - This one died after 3 months!
Started having problems with this unit tripping the circuit. Replaced the outlet (thinking that was the issue) and still had the same problem. Ended up with 4 inches of ice and lost half my fish. Now, several days later the unit is completely dead and I've lost more fish. Return window ended a month ago. Not impressed. Have ordered a replacement from a different company.*********************************************************************************************************************I swear by this brand and model for my 50 gallon pond. I had the first one for 10 years (a good run IMO) before having to replace it. As you can see from the photo, my fish are thriving and several of them were put in at the same time as the first unit, so this product lives up to it's claim. It heats up enough to keep the ice at bay without heating the water. Per specs I could have gotten away with the 250W unit, but I erred on the side of caution as I didn't want too much ice to accumulate around it.Highly recommend!
