Solid grip for Nikkon D5100
Feels solid, seems to work well. I like the AA battery tray for a backup. Don't care for the cable for the shutter release, but that isn't the fault of the grip, just lack of design by Nikkon. I don't see any other way around it. The battery compartment is a tray instead of slots, which the batteries fit nicely into, which was a complaint on other models with the slots that people said the clips wouldn't hold in the batteries and would randomly eject them. The tray is held in by a quarter turn hinged head screw. The knurled knob isn't too big which is another complaint on other brand's grips. It doesn't get in the way of the screen or you hand. I haven't used the grip extensively yet, and time will tell, but I like it for my D5100 so far. Came in a nice solid box too!

The power works but the shutter function is useless without the cable
Worked well till this past week when USB cable detached and came off inside of camera. I was able to extract that piece, unfortunately I am unable to find a replacement cable as this cable seems to be proprietary and the cables that are available separably are too short. I have contacted Dolica for a replacement, but have yet to hear back from them hence the 2 start rating. The power works but the shutter function is useless without the cable. I thought this was a good buy but for what I paid this is a piece of garbage if I can't find replacement parts or the customer service is non existent. I had tried the Neewer transferring cable but that is about an inch too short, no other cables are available for a replacement anywhere that I could find not even from Dolica. I will update if I receive a reply from Dolica.***update*** after 2 e-mails to Dolica 1 to rma and another to customer service, Daniel is shipping a new cable to replace my broken cable. So it seems customer service is alive and well at Dolica. Still a cable replacement should be available to purchase somewhere, maybe from Dolica?

Worth every penny
This battery grip for the Nikon 7100 is a class act, from the elegant packaging to its fit and finish. I returned two duds from other manufacturers that wobbled and were cheap looking and feeling. This battery grip has no wobble; it connects securely. It's a bit heavier than the others -- for good reason: It's sturdy, and all the functions work, including the back focus (you'll need to set this up in your camera's menu under Custom Menu Setting.) The vertical grip feels good, and actually looks as if it were made for the camera. You can spend half this much on a cheap knockoff, or you can pony up some extra bucks for quality. If you feel as I do, that the Nikon battery grip is outrageously expensive, then the Dolica is a great choice.

Arrived in an unsealed box - likely a return item.
The build quality is quite good on this grip. I am more than aggravated by the fact I was shipped an open, likely returned product from Dolica. The tape had been cut from one side, and was non-existent on the other side. I ordered a new product, and expected to receive a sealed item.

but it feels like it was made for the camera
This item is far more solid than the Vivitar battery grip I used to have. of course, it's about 25.00 bucks more, plus doesn't come with any batteries, but it feels like it was made for the camera. It also has some heft to it and nice grip, which is why I got it to balance with bigger lenses. The Vivitar felt cheap and plasticy and didn't quite match the body color. The IR remote also works right out of the box, everything was easy to put together, feels great. Makes a small body camera look much better and great for bigger hands or connecting a large zoom or speedlight with balance.I was going to upgrade my DX body to something else, but I'll stick with the D5300 a few more years w/ the grip.

Excellent third party BG
Excellent third party BG. It worked perfectly on my 7D. Looked like the more expensive Canon version and is well built. I recommend it.

The unit will not recognize AA battery pack, nor can I use more than one Nikon battery. If i add the second battery I get the message that it is not compatible. So if I can only use one Nikon battery and it will not regonize the AA battery pack the grip is useless. I would NOT recommend this battery grip. I have two others that have worked well. I bought this one because of the AA feature (which does not work). This is for the Nikon 5300

DN-MB-D12...Defective unit or bigger issue?
Dolica DN-MB-D12 Battery Power Grip for Nikon D800/D800E/D810 (Black)These reviews for this grip are for different cameras, that I have seen thus far. High quality build, looks great, vertical grip functionality does what it should. However...none of the battery options I use, are working. I've tried 3 sets of NiMh batteries, Energizer Li-Ion, and some Costco general batteries, and the unit reads them as dead. I tried another Nikon EN-EL15 battery in the tray, same result even though it and the other Nikon EN-EL15 battery on the normal battery compartment are fully charged. Batteries work fine without the grip, but the grip doesn't not report back to the unit as it should. The D810 is using the latest firmware, C 1.10.I noticed this version is no longer for sale (for the Nikon D810) and see the following added to the product page."Item Under ReviewThis item is currently unavailable because customers have told us there may be something wrong with our inventory of the item, the way we are shipping it, or the way it's described here. (Thanks for the tip!)We're working to fix the problem as quickly as possible."
