Waste of time and money
I put 9v brand new battery but no luck. Happened twice to me. Has anyone else experienced this and I work in a jewellery shop. So disappointed and disgusted

A low-cost method of testing the validity of diamonds.
This is a rather specialist tool for checking if diamonds are real or not. It’s not something everyone should have. However, if you are in the jewellery trade, house clearance, auction house, then this is a must. If you have some jewellery but not sure if it’s diamond or not and don’t trust your local jeweller to be honest, then this unit could be worth its asking price. It’s not the easiest of devices to use. It relies on electrical conductivity of diamonds rather than the alternate thermal testing method. It’s important to follow the instructions to the letter. Unfortunately, there are no instructions included but are available on their website (see the end of the box for the website address). It’s powered by a PP3 battery which isn’t supplied. On testing, it was accurate with everything I have to test it on. Once you get the hang of it, it’s easy to use and quite addictive. Always hoping to find a ring that’s a real diamond when you thought it wasn’t but not so in my case.Overall, this is a low-cost method of testing the validity of diamonds. If you have found my review at all helpful, I would very much appreciate if you could please click the ‘Helpful’ button below, thank you.

In tests on known stones it worked well.
YoiYee Updated Portable Diamond Tester/Selector II, Gemstone Jewelry Test Pen ToolIn the box.The tester, case, holder and instructions to download the manual. You also need a PP9 battery to power it (not supplied)Using. You just position the detector end at the gemstone and press test. There is an in initial calibration and the degree of diamond content is indicated by a series of LED’s. 8+ is a diamond and below is something else. There is also a test button and audio signal. My wife who collects jewellery has used it to check known pure diamond and it proved positive in each case so it does work. It uses a refractive technique to determine the type of stone. It works best in low light; bright light can give false readings. My wife goes to car boot sales and knows her stuff when it comes to stones but this can be used as a backup. She has found some excellent stones for not a lot of money just by eye because she knows all about gemstones.Overall.An easy to use device to check if you have a diamond.

Good gift for jewellery collectors
This a great little tool for hobbyist jewellery collectors, I got it for my mum who travels a lot and adores visiting jewellery markets abroad to see if she can bag a bargain. What better gadget than this to have to hand, it's very portable and easy to use. The box doesn't come with instructions unfortunately, you can get them instead from the seller's website which was a pain for my mum as she wouldn't be the most computer literate. Once I explained how to use it (fairly straightforward, you need to readjust this for every stone you test depending on its size and the surrounding temperature of the room. Fortunately the ranges are quite large, there are only 3 for diamond size, so once you get the hang of it the first few times it is very easy to calibrate - also these are printed on the back of the device itself so no remembering required ) she was thrilled and went off to test all her jewellery and mine, and it was accurate on each piece so I would have confidence on using this on jewellery I didn't know the origins of.The only possible issue is that this doesn't work above 35 degrees or in over 80% humidity, which could be a problem for use overseas if you were bringing it to markets in Turkey or Dubai for example. Also it doesn't contain batteries and the battery is a little tricky to fit.Overall a well priced little gadget, perfect for amateur collectors.
