Bee Paper - 9"x 12" Heavyweight Black Bristol Paper Pad, 12 Sheets

A great paper. I learned a bit along the way.
The BEE PAPER CO heavyweight paper is a substantial weight. The matte black surface looks great, a little sheen. The textured surface surprised me; it seems a bit too rough for what I was attempting-- still, it's a great surface, but I don't think I could achieve the hard edges shown on the cover of the pad with this textured surface (see my artwork). I tested the back surface, which is smoother (see example) and had more control. I used Prismacolor Deluxe colored pencils, which are wax based; perhaps a non-wax based pencil would work better. I don't have non-wax based, but I plan to try some. ERASERS: Ohuhu battery powered eraser, Pentel Click eraser, Staetdler plastic eraser, Prismacolor kneaded eraser, and Blick art gum eraser, all burnished the surface, leaving shiny spots in the matte finish. The Ohuhu was the worst burnishing, but I used it often if I intended to color back over the area. I also successfully used a small utility knife to scrape away small bits of color and the surface survived it.

Worth the wait
I had to wait several months for this to come back in stock, but it's so worth the wait. This is such a great product. Unlike cardstock, you can erase pencil or chalk outlines without ruining the paper. Metallic inks and paints look phenomenal on it. Absolutely love this product and will be buying again in the future.

Nice Paper, Moronic Business Strategy
While I like the paper a lot, the company leaves much to be desired. The size and quantity of the packs is lacking - I can only get 18x24 in packs of 25 for over $100? What kind of business sense does this even make when looking at the size and pricing of the other pads? Additionally, if you work out the price per sheet, 9x12 is around $1.20, 11x14 is around $1.60, 18x24 is 4.66, and 20x26 is 4.15. Anyone with an ounce of basic business or mathematical sense could see this is ridiculous - an almost genius idea to sell the most popular and sought after paper size in only a 25-pad at a ridiculous price, but you cut off those of us who either want to try this size or some who cannot afford to drop over $115 on 25 sheets of paper. And considering Bee Paper is the only company selling this particular size (Gee, I wonder why retailers won't order this from them to see on a retail level - couldn't possibly be the MSRP, which is over $130 on their website) There are other (BETTER) options out there like Canson Colorline - which can be found for 2.5-$3.5 per 20x25 sheet.

Solid for pointed pen calligraphy
Bought this paper to make swatches of Calligraphy ink. Paper is slightly textured but is smooth enough that a pointed calligraphy nib works just fine and doesn't catch too much. The paper is thick enough that the sheets are rigid, and doesn't bend, so maybe posterboard is a better descriptor. The paper will take some water, but like most mediums this thick, it will curl the paper.

Heavy duty, quality paper that stands up to many color pencil layers.
It’s all I use for my pet portraits. Paired with good quality artists colored pencils, this paper holds up well and makes the colors pop.
