The Foody 8 Hydroponic Tower is our ideal system for outdoor hydroponic growing. Each growing pod has 8 planting pockets and there are 8 pockets for net pots in the base providing 40 total planting locations. Towers include both anti-oxidant and UV reduction elements that help reduce algae formation. No need for messy potting soil. Small clay balls (Hydroton, Plant!t) or other growing mediums may be used (need to purchase separately). Growing pods are attached to base on ball bearings, allowing the pods to rotate easily for optimum light exposure. HOW IT WORKS: This system encourages rapid plant growth by circulating water and nutrients from the base reservoir through the growing pods which hold the plants. (Note: It is not necessary to use net pots in the planting pockets of the growing pods.) WHERE TO GROW: This tower system is suited for outdoor as well as indoor use. We advise using the Foody 8 outdoors if you live in hot climates (where temperatures regularly exceed 85 F). The large planting pockets and large volume of growing medium effectively insulates the plants. The optimum water temperature for plant growth is 65-75 F. SYSTEM INCLUDES: magnetic drive pump, all piping and tubing, 4 growing pods, a base tank with two access lids, quick assembly guide, Foody hydroponic growing guide, outdoor certified electronic timer, emitter, 8 net pots (for base reservoir lid placement), 8 rope wicks (for base net pots), Nutrients, pH Control Kit, Total Dissolvable Salts meter, and Rooting Plugs.

You will need alternative methods for reliable food production.
Purchased the foods eight and initiated set up in early May in the northeast inside garage under a grow light. Using clay pebbles and nutrient solutions from local hydroponic store. Plant growth was stagnant so it was rolled outside. Only the purchased strawberry plants are growing well. Several basil and cucumber plants germinated in a hydro garden have failed once planted in the tower. Green peppers that were purchased are alive but not growing. Here are my findings. If you plan to move it put it on a rolling base. I have eliminated the top tier since becomes it is too top heavy. Once the clay pebbles are loaded it is extremely difficult to load the plants without damaging their roots. None of the plants in the lowest pots with string are doing well. We also were shorted two of these pots. Design wise: If the pump fails you are screwed! There is no access panel large enough to allow replacement forcing you to disassemble the tower..imagine clay pebbles bouncing everywhere. Not to mention the little ball bearings! It's been an interesting experience but costly like any hobby.

Really unhappy...
I was super excited to get this contraption. But really hate it now. Looks just ok- the large black water reservoir is just plain ugly, the tulip shaped upper parts are difficult to fill ...but of course I thought it would get more stable one I assembled the whole thing with plants and water and growth media. I started the plants inside since we had a late start to summer. All was well indoors but the bottom 'wick' chambers are useless since anything growing above them will block the light. Then I somehow managedd to move it outdoors- almost an impossible feat- took 3 people and a dolly, top is terribly unstable. But the real upsetting part was yet to occur. I diligently checked ph and nutrient levels and turned the thing (easy to turn since has those little metal balls to roll on). Everything was great until we had a windy afternoon. Not a tornado or a storm, just windy and the whole thing toppled- all my plants mangled and the little balls of expanded clay media everywhere. My neighbors' ears are still burning.Waste of money and time. Needs to be better for the price. Poorly engineered and not for outdoor use if you have any sort of occasional breeze. Don't waste your money.

Packaging and instructions are very easy to follow and very detailed step by step
I was impressed with the Foody 8 from the start. Packaging and instructions are very easy to follow and very detailed step by step. Set up was fairly simple; took about 25 min after ensuring everything was connected properly and the Foody was set-up in a spot that received enough daylight/ sun. All materials are sturdy and well made. I am just getting started on indoor gardening and will be writing an update at a later date on my progress. Easy to plant and get started, perfect for a beginner like me!
