The NIV Application Commentary: James

Even though this commentary is not huge nor loaded with detailed analysis of the Greek, exhaustive accounts of various scholarly opinions on a given text, and copious footnotes; nonetheless, the author has excellent insights, based on research that he has done for us into all of the above - Thus, a fine commentary for its size, for a "lay" audience.

Excellent resource! Well written and full of scholarly thoughts written for the "common" man who does not have a Greek background. I appreciate the NIV Application Commentary as whole because they all their books to the same basic outline commentary to commentary, which parallels accepted Bible study formats.

I love this series of commentaries because you can learn about the text and then why we need to know it. Each book is setup the same way which is a comforting tool for studying the books of the Bible.

I teach an adult Sunday School class. This commentary is the right mix of layman and scholarly work that makes it applicable for me. I normally use 2-3 commentaries when preparing a lesson and will definitely be drawing from this one as we go through James.

This is a great resource for preparing to teach through the book of James each week for my youth group. It takes the Biblical material and makes it accessible to everyone. If you are studying the Bible and really want to get in to it more, I highly recommend any commentary from the NIV Application Commentary series.

I just finished leadign a Bible study in the book of James. This commentary was my main resource. It was so insightful and helpful at getting to the original meaning while provoking engaging life relevancies.The only reason it is not a 5 star, is that the section headings are not done in a way (in my opinion) that are helpful if you want to try to find something for review or a "at a glance" resource.

I bought this as a resource in preaching through the book of James. It's been a great addition to my library, providing great insights and helpful "Bridging Contexts" sections to make each section relevant for today. I greatly appreciate this book!
