Think an Indiana Jones expedition with superpowers
A woman, wearing plenty of jewelry, with no ID, speaking only a foreign language is found at a hospital, dying and about to give birth. She lives long enough to name the baby, Petra Kara. Petra has known a hard life, being bounced around in the foster system, and struggling through her life with odd powers with no explanation as to how to use them or where they came from. She can read people’s minds and move objects. But over the years she has gotten good at hiding, and her real love is archaeology, especially of the Middle-East where her mother was from. When an opening for a position with a dig team going to Libya opens up, she jumps on it.Even though this was book 5 in a series, this is a standalone story. You don’t have to have read any of the others in the series to follow this one. Like the other books in the series, this focuses on a young woman coming into supernatural powers. Yes, it has a lot of the cliched elements of the young woman being a loner, being in the foster system, having a special background unknown to her that she discovers. But rather than being the run-of-the-mill urban fantasy average girl discovers powers story, the bulk of the story follows Petra as she journeys to Libya on an excavation. I found the setting endlessly fascinating, even if it was mostly just rocks and desert. As a fan of Indiana Jones, this has sifting through sand, working in trenches, and discovering ancient relics, one which triggers the depths of Petra’s powers and unlocks her mythic history. There’s a dash of romance in this, and friends that she makes on the dig team, including Ibby who has her own spin-off trilogy Born of Metal. There were questions raised in this though, that were never answered, which I hope get answered in Book 6 of this series The Elementals, where all of the girls in these books come together (I was dragging my heels on reading it since it’s just so cliched that they’re recruited into a generic supernatural taskforce. I hate those books having an agency/organization in them with a passion). If they don’t get answered, I hope that there will be a spin-off series for Petra written eventually, since I did love her Indiana Jones style adventuring and hope it gets continued. (There is a weird jump at the end where it goes from Petra walking into the lab about to test for her powers at the end of Chapter 18 to her standing on a street at the beginning of Chapter 19. I have the kindle version and I didn’t notice any missing chapters).

Born of Air: A Desert Fantasy and Elemental Origins Novel (The Elemental Origins Series Book 5)
❤️🔥❤️ love this new character in the Elemental series! Petra’s love for archaeology is great. The suspense keeps building. How will A.L. Knorr bring it all together in the next book? This book is action packed and I cannot wait for the Elementals next book can’t wait to find out! Now onto the last book…Definitely recommend this book

Elemental Air
The series continues introducing us to new characters with different abilities, and Petra's story is no different. This book has somewhat of a plot twist considering all the girls are from the same small town. We are also introduced to some type of organization that is interested in the girls. I surmise the next book explains the friendship/collaboration between the girls and the company.

Takes you to the desert
I felt as if I had traveled to the desert and could feel the hot sun, sand in the wind, and see the beautiful sky with no light pollution. Running along the tops of sandstone structures reminds me of places I've been. A fun read, to be sure. The book lets you see things from an archeologist's point of view. The power Petra displays is pretty cool and sets up the next book to be very interesting.

Interesting story
Petra is a teenager who loves all things archeological. She dreams of going on a dig and making that her career. Her mother died when she was born...well actually, before she was born. She should have died as well. She grew up in foster care, but the only foster mother she liked, died not long ago. She's pretty smart and has been saving her money to go to the best college available. She has her future planned out.She learns of an expedition to a dig overseas and applies. She'd be the youngest one there. She's accepted. Something happens while she's there that she cannot explain. She is the one born of air, and the locals are scared to death. But a vision tells her something else. She should have listened. It's an interesting story. Not as cool as the other four I have read, but still good.Read on my friends.

This book is amazing. A fantastic introduction to the last of the Elementals in the series.Petra is an amazing character, and is written beautifully. I won't say she's my favorite (That honor goes to Saxony), but she's definitely in the top 5. (See what I did there?) The story arc in this book is well laid out and very easy to follow. The action is believable and allows for a near complete "suspension of disbelief" throughout the entire book, which facilitates deep immersion into the story and the characters.Due to the way I read, I'm not the best person to talk about the writing, and while the writing may not be perfect it is absolutely top tier. If the writing passes a certain "cleanliness threshold", I stop seeing the words on the page and my brain starts translating them directly to images that almost feel tangible, and the writing here was so good that I was able to stop reading it and start watching the movie in my head, complete with audible dialogue. There are precious few writers that have the ability to not only tell the story, but write it in such a way that I'm able to have that kind of immersion, and I can do that with all of A.L. Knorr's books published to date.10/10 would highly recommend.

Excellent series
Presumably if you’ve read this far you know this is an intriguing series about supernaturals. I love the research behind the settings of each book though, as much as the way their stories unfold. This one was particularly interesting with its setting in an archaeological dig in Libya, providing a totally different view of the country to what we normally hear. Even trying to google images of a desert town near the tadrart acacus tends to bring up only images of war. So while the violence was not ignored by any means, it was fascinating to think of it in terms of the people & millions of years of history in the area instead. But of course the story of Petra & her supernatural powers evolution was fascinating too. Really good series I’d love to see as a Netflix series

LOVED IT💕
l was rivitied and entranced from tha first word till the last. Young Petra's story and her mother's melted my heart and l was hooked from the moment the janitor returned to work to interpret for the frightened young woman. Jasper, the Australian on the dig, was upbeat and pretty authentic and l liked that all the people on the dig were friends. Excitement and danger lurks as we learn so many are interested in Petra. Recommended read . ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
