The Bromance Book Club

Such a cute, little bit spicy, funny & romantic story
Marriage on the rocks, wife wanting to get divorced, but husband wants to win her back? You would think the story would be straightforward, but nope not with this story. With the help of his best friend/team mate and being newly introduced into the all male book club, Gavin was getting all the help and insight in order to win back his wife, Thea. This book had second chance romance, sports romance (baseball athlete), family, passion, and changing the stereotypes of males who, read interesting books in the book club.First of all, the idea of all these men having a book club, and using it to learn how to be better husbands, boyfriends, lovers, and truly understand their respective partners was great. In addition, using the stories they read, Gavin and the men were able to reflect on their own mistakes, and tried resolving them. Gavin definitely had his work cut out for him considering Thea was done with him, she was tried of pretending to be something she wasnāt and felt like their marriage, their relationship wasnāt how it use to be. A lot of deep rooted problems played a factor in why Thea wanted a divorce from Gavin, and I felt bad seeing Gavin having to hear that Thea wanted nothing to do with him anymore. In addition, as if Gavin wasnāt in enough pain from learning Thea wanted a divorce, he found out that Thea had been faking the big āOā for quite some time during their marriage, talk about a blow to his male ego.Gavin had a lot of learning to do when it came to Thea and figure out how to solve his personal issues. Like Thea mentioned, it wasnāt just one thing, there were multiple reasons as to why their relationship essentially went down the drain. Thea also felt like she lost sight of who she was, she realized that she wasnāt the same person she use to be, and gave up on achieving her career in order to raise her daughters and help Gavin with his dream of being a baseball player. Thea was a strong woman and mother, and I admired seeing her rediscover parts of herself as well as trying to get her footing back into getting her degree. Now, with the book club, I enjoyed reading how all the men banded together to help Gavin to learn from his mistakes, and help him see from Theaās point of view of where their marriage went wrong, etc. I also liked how the men were in touch with their feelings and embraced the ideas that they too could like feminine things from pumpkin spiced lattes to reading romantic regency novels. The fact that they read books that were set in the regency era reminded me so much of Bridgerton that I absolutely loved it. In addition, the fact that some of the chapters were from the actual novel that Gavin was assigned to read was fun because, not only did you get to follow along with the story but, also see how Gavin implemented parts of the story into his plan into winning Thea back.Gavin was an absolute sweetheart and I loved seeing him being cute and shy around Thea, but also him being so overcome with desire over wanting Thea was fantastic, I was like, āTHEA YOU KNOW YOU WANT HIM GIRL BECAUSE I SURE DO!ā Gavin was equal parts endearing, a bit possessive over Thea, and could instantly become a dominant man that had me GASPING! I officially love Gavin Scott! And letās not forget about the lovely Thea, she was not only an amazing mother, but she finally gave up on caring what others thought of her, and said and did as she pleased. I especially liked the part where Thea totally shut Rachel up at the baseball dinner in front of everyone (as well as kind of brag about Gavinās bedroom behavior *wink).I absolutely loved this story! I loved Gavin and Theaās personalities, and their willingness to work on themselves in order to better their marriage. Thea and Gavin individually had to work on their own issues, but they learned a lot about themselves and how to be a better partner to one another. Of course, the reading of regency romance novels was fun for me, and I loved the fierce, passionate love that Gavin and Thea had for each other. The spice was amazing, loved when Gavin and Thea went absolutely feral to get each otherās clothes off haha. This was a sweet, wholesome, reflective story that made Gavin and Thea truly see what they wanted out of their marriage and the importance of being honest and truthful to oneās self and love. I will definitely keep reading the rest of the series! Iām so excited!

Getting Married is Easy. Staying Married is Going to Take Some Effort.
Are you going to like this book? I think that depends on your life situation. Parts of this book really resonated with me. I mean if you have been with the same person for any length of time you know that sometimes things can get bad in your relationship and you have to do the work, pick up the pieces and examine the things that went wrong. If youāve ever gone through that and come out the other side stronger, I think parts of this book with definitely resonate with you too.Gavin and his wife Thea got pregnant and married fast. Now it is years later and they have just hit a pretty big rough patch that is going to make or break their marriage. Gavin was an idiot for awhile and is now living in a hotel licking his wounds as Thea has had enough and kicked him out. But the Bromance book club is going to be there to help Gavin figure out how to win his wife back with the help of some romance novels or āmanualsā as the boy like to call them.***āMen are idiots. We complain that women are so mysterious, and we never know what they want. We mess up our relationships because we convince ourselves that itās too hard to figure them out. But the real problem is with us. We think weāre not supposed to feel things and cry and express ourselves. We expect women to do all the emotional labor in a relationship and then act confused when they give up on us.ā ***First Gavin needs to figure out how to court his wife, how to talk to her and really listen to her. Not as easy as it seems when she is like hostile territory at the moment. He is also going to need to learn how to get over his manly pride. So, he learned his wife was faking it in bed their entire marriage, so his pride is bruised and his heart a little broken. He is going to need to figure out why she was faking it in bed instead of just talking to him. Everything is deeper than just the surface stuff.Leah, isnāt just faking it in bed, she is faking it in her entire life. Where is the rambunctious girl of her youth? When did she start telling lies to everyone including herself? Why did she feel like she had to? These are some of the things that Leah has to look at and with her husband doing sweet things and acting like a changed man Leah wants to figure out how to trust him and herself enough to start again.***āAll spouses become strangers to each other at some point in a marriage,ā Del said. āAll human beings are a work in progress, and we donāt all change at the same pace. Who knows how many people have gotten divorced simply because they failed to recognize that what they thought were insurmountable problems were actually just temporary phases?ā***I liked the story and really connected with Thea and Gavin. This was a slightly more serious story than some of the other romances I read but I loved that this was an 'I need to save my marriage' story and how to reconnect and re-fall in love with the person in your life. Iām glad there are books out there that talk about that instead of the easy part of just falling in love in the first place.I have enjoyed the first two bromance bookclub books that Iāve read. It is fun to watch the boys try to help each other out and how men donāt always have to be the brutish masculine stereotypes of the past. It is great to see them as people just trying to figure it all out too. There was a little bit of social commentary and not so much preaching as just putting it out there but it wasnāt so much to really distract from the main story. Just things like this.***āWe shouldnāt assume that women and girls donāt know the difference between reality and fantasy. We donāt fear that men who read murder mysteries and thrillers are going to have a hard time not becoming serial killers, so why should we assume that a girl wonāt know that she doesnāt have to change from a mermaid to human in order to find love just because of a movie?ā ***Overall a fast and fun read.

Humorous second chance sports romance with a twist
Gavin Scott is a millionaire baseball star, recently separated from his wife, and mother to his twin daughters, Thea. After three years of marriage Gavin discovers his wife has been faking it in bed, ironically after she has an orgasm. Humiliated Gavin retreated to the spare room, then gave her the silent treatment; which led to the separation.Cornered in his skanky hotel room where he is drowning in a bottle of whisky, Gavin is introduced to the top secret men's book club where they read historical romances and learn how to understand women. Armed with his new-found knowledge, can Gavin woo his own wife?I read several reviews of this before it was released and loved the premise of a group of high-powered businessmen and professional athletes reading historical romances as an insight into what a woman needs. Reading the book did not disappoint, it had everything I would expect from a second-chance sports romance with that added layer of historical romance. I also liked that the blame for the failure of their marriage was spread between Gavin and Thea, not just the wife as so often happens.Overall, I really enjoyed this funny romance and I will definitely be looking to read the second book in the series.

Lord Licks-A-Lot to the Rescue
This fun yet kind of high concept meta rom com, finds star baseball player Gavin drunk in a hotel room for a week until his sports Bros rescue him and demand he sort himself out.He has stupidly - yes stupidly - left his wife in a huff, and Thea is heartbroken and angry. But thanks to the Bromance Book Club, there's hope.Gavin thinks it's a joke when he hears Del's plan for getting Thea back.Learn how to romance his wife by reading romance. Specifically, a regency romance novel. This is laugh out loud hilarious as the bunch of bros hide chick lit in cupboards and talk about emotions and love language. Yet underneath it all is a true love story, a story of personal growth and a story about male friendship.Mack, one of the cheeky, arrogant flirty bros is so inept it's scary and I'm pretty sure he'll get his just rewards in another book by falling madly in love. It's insightful, sweet, emotional and mostly snort-worthy.

Get all the feels with this second chance romance š
I've had this one sitting on my shelf for quite a while now and have been excited to read it ever since I first heard about it. There's a lot of hype around this book and perhaps kept me from picking it up sooner but I'm so glad to say that this second-chance romance lived up to the hype for me!I did struggle a bit at the start with my current funky reading mood but once I gave this a proper go I ended up surprising myself by finishing it in a few hours! The story was so well paced and engaging--it was really unputdownable. That said I honestly wasn't sure I'd enjoy it as much as I did because I did not like Thea's sister Liv at all. I know they both had a rough upbringing with two absent and selfish parents, but wow, she was so petty and immature that it really rubbed me the wrong way. I also wasn't too sure about Mack's character at the start but he ended up really growing on me!Gavin was definitely my favourite. I liked Thea but I also struggled with her inability to open up while also holding what Gavin did (which is what she did too) over his head so much. Gavin completely swept my heart off its little feet and I completely felt for him. Yes, his ego and insecurities got in the way and he did screw up, but he really tried his best to redeem himself and to prove his love and his willingness to be more open and to try to make their marriage work. Reading his POV really melted my heart because you could feel how much he loved his wife and daughters. There were a lot of start/stop moments between them but I loved how Gavin kept trying and never gave up.Thea for the most part was not a bad character but I felt she came off as a a little selfish? She didn't have good examples of healthy relationships because of her selfish and narcissistic parents, so her reaction to Gavin was understandable. But there were moments I wanted to really shake her because I felt like Gavin was giving so much and she wasn't giving equally back. Gavin might have been the one to "walk away" initially but she wasn't blameless. What I really loved about her character though was how she stood up for Gavin especially when he struggled with his stutter and how people reacted to it. That's the kind of genuine support and love that I love! Also this was much steamier than I expected--I'd say a good 3.5/5 on the steamy scale! But obviously, obviously the best part of this book was the Bromance Book Club. These men were just... the best? What I would give for them to be real and to be a fly on the wall of all their book club sessions! I found myself endeared to all of them so quickly. Del, Malcom, Yan, THE RUSSIAN who was kinda gross but also hilarious? There was a date scene that had me laughing uncontrollably! The bromances not only had me giggling at times but was also just really heartwarming. I loved the talks they had and I found myself saying "Yaaas!" so often because their discussions were so on point! I loved how they were so genuine in bettering themselves and their relationships by reading all kinds of romances. I also thought that it was clever (and unique!) to include chapters of the book Gavin was reading to get his marriage back on track, and watching him really get into the story really had me grinning! šOverall, a fast moving, sexy and sweet second-chance romance that had me laughing, smiling and swooning just a little bit š

Fun and entertaining!
What can I say the title to this book grabbed me instantly. Then when I read the description I knew I had to buy a copy. Iām so glad I did because this book was fun! It was great to experience a romance from a male perspective especially when itās Gavin, a baseball player who finds his marriage in trouble. Desperate to fix things with his wife he joins a secret book club. However this is no ordinary book club and it might be the only thing that can save Gavinās marriage. Here he finds help in the romance department from this unlikely group and learns a few things along the way! This book had me smiling away to myself. The banter within this group was very entertaining especially Mack and the way he easily winds Gavin up. The fact that they were reading a regency romance in the book club also appealed. I do love my historical romance! The excerpts from that book were a great addition to the story.I have to say it was also very refreshing to read a romance between a couple that had already got together but were now experiencing trouble. I guess this is a story about what happens after the happy ever after. The way this couple struggled to communicate was a big issue and even though they still loved each other maybe that just wasnāt enough. It helped that both Gavin and Thea had flaws. I guess in a way it made me to root for them even more. The Bromance Book Club moved at a great pace and was entertaining with a few sizzling moments along the way too. A quick, light and fun read! Iām already looking forward to the next book in the series.

I couldn't put this book down.
I barely blinked and I was in the last chapter already. That's how engrossed I was with The Bromance Book Club. I loved how this was a very refreshing take on contemporary romance.Gavin is a Major League baseball player and his wife Thea just asked for a divorce. To help win her back his buddies recruit him for the Bromance Book Club, where the first rule is: You do not talk about Book Club.Actually, it's an amazing group where guys get together to read romance novels and learn how to speak the same language as their partners. It's super sweet, but the banter was brilliant. The guys were great fun and their meetings hilarious. But, as a second chance romance, this book was a lot more than just a few ''haha'' moments. It was actually really touching and heartbreaking at some points. There was a lot of angst to unpack in Gavin and Thea's relationship, and ghosts of the past that came to the surface as they began working on their marriage. Anyone that has been in a relationship for more than a few years will be able to relate with some of their struggles and understand that all relationships need work, commitment and, most importantly, good communication in order to thrive.I do wish that a few things could have been addressed though.Thea and especially Liv were very unfair to Gavin throughout a great part of this book. I do understand where Gavin was at fault, and do think he needed to be held accountable, but there's a difference between trying to win someone back and just being a doormat. Also, I would have loved to have seen him breaking out of his shell a bit more. We got to see him using lines from the books and meaning them, but ideally, he wouldn't need the prompts anymore. So I wish we could have seen that bigger transformation in him. But, overall this was a great, funny and delightful read. I loved Lyssa Kay's writing style and I'm definitely curious to see Liv and Mack in the sequel.
