One of the best things I've ever bought on Amazon.
This is easily one of the best things I've ever bought on Amazon. I love beans, and these are some of the best refried beans I've ever bought. Only homemade can begin to approach the quality of these beans. These have so many advantages over other types of refried beans, let me list a few;#1: It's 100% beans. That's it. No fillers, no flavors, no preservatives, no fat, no cholesterol, no trans fat, no sodium, no nothing. Just beans.#2: Flavor. These taste amazing! Closest thing to homemade I've ever tried. Rich, flavorful and very satisfying.#3: Ease of use; Combine with equal amount of boiling water, stir, and let sit over low heat for 5 minutes. That's it. With my electric kettle, I can have as little as a cup up to a pot full of beans in 8 minutes flat.#4: Control. You control everything. How much you make, the consistency, and best of all; You know exactly what and how much salt, fat and spices are in it because you put them in. You have complete control over every aspect.#5: Economy. 6 pounds of beans of this quality for $17 or less is a bargain. 78 servings of beans = $0.21/serving.This is a true, 5-star product if there ever was one. Can my abuela make better? Of course she can. But this is a close 2nd.

Santa Fe Bean Company Culinary Refried Beans
This product contains only beans. I like the mild cereal/bean flavor, which does not overpower other ingredients I may add, such as yogurt and a packaged Indian eggplant, tomato, and onion dish. The product doesn't contain added salt, and I don't miss it.The product rehydrates fairly rapidly in a microwave oven; I heat to only a bit higher than body temperature. The bag looks like a sturdy coffee bag. The bag has a double-ridge zipper seal. If I start sealing from side of the bag, the zipper works fine. If I start sealing from the middle of the bag, the ridges can get "cross-threaded."The bag is completely sealed until I cut the top off with scissors. However, the ends of the inner zipper seals are not quite long enough to be fused into both sides of the bag, so I think that an extremely small and energetic insect could get inside. I keep opened bags in my refrigerator; if not, I would keep them in large zipper-lock bags. Again, this issue does not arise until the outer seal at the top of the bag is cut open.I had been using the Santa Fe Bean Company instant fat-free vegetarian refried beans (which I reviewed), but I prefer the lack of salt and the price of these culinary refried beans.

Better than Canned!
I wanted to try dehydrated beans for the cost factor, as we use a lot of cans. I looked at this company's "seasoned" varieties, but I noticed all but one had beans, salt, oil as the ingredients. This one is totally plain, just beans, but much cheaper. If all they are adding is salt and oil, I thought, well I can do that. So, I decided to give these a try.I was very pleasantly surprised. There is no dog food smell, like the canned beans. Instead you are greeted with an earthy grain aroma. I just added some baco bits, salt, and dried onions, and yum, these were great and ready in 5 minutes! I will be ordering these again in the future. I just wish they offered the same scenario with the "culinary" style (i.e. totally plain bean) in black beans and lentils, etc., as the price is better than the seasoned varieties. They come in a dark plastic package that has a zip-lock top, so you can reseal the bag between uses. I imagine this would be a good emergency food item, as it looks like it will store very well.Anyways, for others on the fence, like me, I say, give it a try. They taste great.

Great taste
I first had this product on a camping trip last year and really liked it. I decided to get the 3 pack for both camping & home use this year. This is a quick and convenient way to enjoy your beans without the weight of cans.

Must add your own seasonings. Better than canned. Easy to fix.
In times of staying home, I was looking for food items I could order as regular Amazon items (not Whole Foods or Pantry). We like canned refried beans. I couldn't find acceptable prices or delivery times, so I tried these. To me, this tastes noticeably better than canned refried beans, and it seems to reconstitute perfectly in five minutes.Value? A can of refried beans is about 2 cups. Since there are 26 1/3-cup "servings" per bag, and since you add 1 cup of water to 1 cup of beans, three bags = 78 services = 26 cups = equivalent of 52 cans of refried beans. So the $29 I paid isn't a bad price... if you can use three bags. I don't see a sell-by date, but they say dry beans should keep for a couple of years.(I'm using 1 cup beans, 1 cup water, 1/2 tsp adobo, 1/2 tsp chili powder, and juice of about half a lemon).

Great product, especially for backpacking
A great find on Amazon. I paid a higher price than what it was originally listed for but still felt it had a lot of value and had a lower per unit cost than all other similar options. The beans don't take long to rehydrate and lend itself to seasoning as you see fit (which I prefer as I like less salt than most canned options). Although I originally bought this as a backpacking option, I've been using it more often at home. Also for vegans, this is a great way to get some fiber when camping or backpacking.

Best dehydrated pinto beans ever!
These dehydrated, flaked pinto beans are the best I've had--flavor and convenience. I also like the fact that they are 100% beans--no salt, flavorings or chemicals. The directions are easy, and tou can add whatever seasonings you want. The packaging is also high quality. Great product!!
