I really wish this came with a more comprehensive chord chart for the Merlin but thankfully I was able to find one online (there is a page in the back with a limited chart that includes the "Justin Chord")Was hoping there would be a bit more direction on playing rather than just a few songs. The quality of the inside of the book looks like something that would mostly be easy to print a computer, though it does have a glossy cover. It is nice to have the tablature for the merlin as that is not something I've seen elsewhere. Songs in the book are all traditional pieces and include the songs listed below. Not so much a guide as a small collection of beginner songs. Would love more songs and information about different tunings, chords, etc.

the guide was very good, but,I don't think it in depth enough about tablatures or explaining the neck diagrams.

Book is ok but needs a lot more songs this is a small start but would like a much bigger veriety.

...by the cute cartoon on the cover. This book is garbage created to make a quick $8. I can't remember ever giving any product a 1 star rating, but I'd give this book a zero if I could. I recently purchased a Seagull Merlin and thought I'd see what other melodies folks had transcribed for this new (to me) instrument. The book that arrived hardly looked new as it already had several creases in the cover. Probably a prior purchase returned. It's only 13 pages long and 5 of those pages are blanks, dedications, a fuzzy neck diagram & TOC. There are no lyrics in the book, only melodies. So, anyone hoping to sing along to your Merlin riffs will need to look online for lyrics. The book contains diagrams for 8 chords (Yep. 8.) but only 4 of the 10 songs include chord charts; the other 6 are melody notes only. Also, for a book of less than 500 words (VERY brief song descriptions), this tripe is full of ridiculous typos. If the English language is such a bother for the author, who knows what kind of musical mistakes are included! The titles of the songs and the tablature are fuzzy, indicating that the songs were lazily copied from another source or maybe typeset with a DOS program(!). Honestly, I'm insulted that something this shoddy ever saw print. With just a little bit of effort, this could have been a fun book.

This is a nice little book written by Merlin Speers for the Merlin dulcimer. It has some easy songs to get you started. It's inexpensive and he includes something of the history of each song in the book, a nice touch if you like folk music history, which I do.

I just got my Merlin 2 months ago and getting this book was just what i needed to learn to play songs on it. I only wish there were more. Let me know when there are more to be had and I will be first in line to buy it!

Only know three songs in this book ,but it’s all practice have to start some where. Thanks very much.

I bought this for a present for my brother in law. It seems a lovely book and includes information about the songs, when they were written and where they are from, that he will find interesting and shows how to play the chords at the back. I think he will be really pleased with it.

When I first read this I was underwhelmed, but having persevered it's not bad. The songs are good fun and help to get you started with a Merlin. Just wish there was a bit more.

Excellent song book. Good variety of tunes with useful history of each song. Well worth buying. A second volume is needed.
