Peretti proves that good novels can be written
I've recently discovered Frank Peretti's novels and have now read almost all of them. The Prophet is exciting from page one and Mr. Peretti proves that good novels can be written ... and enjoyed ... without all the sex, violence, and profanity. He weaves a story by delving into the hearts of his characters and he brings to the front their shortcomings, but with the realization that shortcomings cannot keep you from the grace of God.I would highly recommend all of his novels, Once you begin, there is no putting them down. Good for you, Mr. Peretti!!

I liked it, what's next?
You will like this more or less depending on what you read last. It is important to note that The Prophet was originally published in 1992. The story has a nostalgic feel to it. Political views have evolved on both sides of many issues since the '90s, and the pro-life/choice jargon has been refined, but that is easy to forgive. This is Christian fiction so you will expect God to at least show up. This happens quickly but God is immediately assigned to the weird and fanatical as the array of characters take the stage. I do not feel like He ever really loses that label. I actually enjoyed a glimpse of how a television station does it's news. There was quite a bit of repetition and I think our hero took too long to pick up the prophetic football and score. I liked the dual story lines of bringing down a political icon and of solving a murder. I felt the father/son reconciliation was a bit hurried and unrealistic. Basically a man looses his estranged father and reunites with his estranged son while encountering a spiritual awakening many years after committing his life to God. I think the most realistic characters were the grandmother who made the'boys'clean up their mess and insisted on praying before acting and the police detective who didn't turn out to be corrupt after all. The only other Frank Peretti book I have read is The Illusion, so I am rating The Prophet 1 star below that.

Truth...Yes!
I’m a big fan of Frank Peretti’s novels, thought I’d read all of his books & discovered I’d somehow missed ‘Prophet’! It’s another superbly written faith-filled gem! I’m amazed at how the Frank Peretti tackles media, politics, women’s rights & soul-searching dilemmas with compassionate insight, intrigue & fervor! Praise God & writers of His Truth!!

The prophets call
It is an amazing thing to read such a book. Frank gives life to many issues that trouble our world. He puts flesh in all these problems, especially abortion. Tying it together with how God works through His people to resolve issues. Most importantly in this book He captures the heart of God. I felt what God feels when He looks down on a lost people. He gives in details how the people of God get frustrated and their voices get drowned when they stand foe truth. The world hates truth and it hate those who love truth. Truth can be your friend if you love it and your enemy if you hate it.Kudos Frank Peretti. Great work.

Poorly developed story
I'm reviewing this book from a readability standpoint. From start to finish this book felt rush, yet dragged on at the same time. In quite a few places it seemed like something would happen just because the plot demanded it. I kept reading thinking that there would be a plot twist at the end. However the ending almost as much of a disappointment as the rest of the book. I've read quite a few Frank Peretti books and this is by far his worst.

The book was excellent. I really enjoyed everything about it. The characters was so real. It felt like I was there experiencing the whole thing. I am very thankful for this book. I hope that the author will continue to write books like this one.

Another Peretti Literary Great
As I recall, this is the third of Peretti's Christian novels and I have found, with several readings, this book to be compelling and captivating. This is an excellent book we fathers and grandfathers should share with the younger men in our family circles, something uplifting and encouraging. Enjoy! I did!

Wonderful storytelling
A different book than the ones I be read from Frank 03443558 in that we do not have the spiritual warfare but instead a more accurate hearing of God's voice that if we calm our lives we would hear. Wonderful storytelling at its best.

I love Frank Peretti's other books
I love Frank Peretti's other books, but this one just doesn't work. I abandoned it about 10% of the way in, put off by what is basically a clunky exposition of how a newsroom works. Just boring, and we don't care about the characters. I did try, honest, but it's just not in the same league as the others

Good.
Enjoyed it. Great storytelling and plot. It is a book that is unapologetic about its beliefs and that on itself is refreshing.

Too dark
Not like his first couple of books. A bit too dark for my liking without reason
