It cuts the length and thickness of the wood recommended, if it to thick the splitter will let you know by blowing a house breaker switch. It works best off my portable generator.

the cover is the same cover that amazon sells for $28. the cover doesn't cover the bottom half, its just for the top half of the splitter. i thought i got the wrong one, sent it back, rec'd the second one today. same thing.
