The Best of New Orleans Cookbook: 50 Classic Cajun and Creole Recipes from the Big Easy
E**.
Only 6 photos and useless recipes.
This cookbook is RIDICULOUS. Please don't waste your money or time on this one.PROBLEMS:- There are 50 recipes in this cookbook and only SIX photographs. Worse still, The photographs are of the dishes that most average people are aware of. But dishes that may be less famous and that the average Cook might not be aware of have no photos at all to give a reference of the finished dish.- Some of the 50 recipes included in this book are so basic that they should not even be counted as a recipe. Case in point: The recipe for poaching eggs and a recipe for coffee. I am not joking.- Some of the recipes have no relationship to New Orleans, like the recipe for basic pumpkin pie.- There is not one recipe in this cookbook that you couldn't find by doing a simple Google search that would produce beautiful step-by-step photos of dishes that you are less familiar with.

Awesome samples of traditional New Orleans dishes
I am just an average home cook here who was interested in a sampling of New Orleans recipes. I've never reviewed a product on Amazon before, but felt the need to give this little book the credit it deserves since it holds some of my favorite recipes and I've enjoyed using it immensely.I've found this book informative and easy to follow. The little tips, tricks and tidbits of information scattered throughout the book make it and interesting read and give insight into the culture of New Orleans.I have prepared only 3 recipes from this book so far, but each one was absolutely delicious and I've made two of them several times since. The first recipe I tried was Chicken and Sausage Jambalaya. Very tasty dish that I brought to a dinner party and received rave reviews. The pot was empty when I left - it was all eaten up!The next recipe I made was Chicken, Andouille, and Shrimp Gumbo (picture attached). I have to say that I was very nervous about this one since I had never tried making a roux before. I followed the steps exactly and a few hours later had a delicious pot of gumbo. In fact, it was so good I made it every weekend for a month straight. Next time I'm doubling the recipe because everyone asks for a bowl when I make it and I only end up with one bowl for myself! MUST HAVE LEFTOVERS!!Finally, I've made the Crawfish Bread several times (picture attached). The first time I made it, I didn't have any crawfish tails available and substituted shrimp. My daughter (11 years old) said she wished I would make this every day because she didn't want to stop eating it! It is definitely a keeper - both with shrimp and with crawfish. If you want an introduction to New Orleans flavors that gives you a sampling of the most popular dishes, this is a good option. The recipes are easy to follow and it's a conveniently sized paperback book so you don't have to worry about getting your phone/tablet/device dirty while cooking from it!

Excellent book! Highly recommend!
The people who complains that there are no pictures on this book obviously don’t cook or are not interested to read and try to cook the food recipes that are in here.We don’t have pictures in cookbooks back in the day, they don’t even give you exact measurements. I learned from my folks who would just tell me what ingredients are needed and then you go from there. You taste your food and if you make a mistake then you do it again from square one. That’s how a good cook/chef starts. Recipe books are guides, they are not responsible for your inability to comprehend or cook. I can give my friends recipes to the dot and they will still manage to screw it up. Why? Because there’s no love and patience to what they do. That’s the difference.I can cook and I can easily follow and tweak some of the recipes. But these recipes are good and can be easily followed by an 8 year old who’s excited to cook and learn. The recipes are straight forward and yes, you can search online for these recipes but I like reading good books and this book I highly recommend to anyone who wants an introduction to Cajun/Creole foods.

So, much more than I expected! It deserves a sixth star!
This isn't the first NOLA cookbook I've bought. That first one purported to have 'real' Cajun food, the food that the locals eat, not the food that the tourists eat. I had no idea that the famous NOLA food wasn't local food. I haven't tried anything from that book, it looks nice on my shelf.I was hesitant to be excited about this book. It has Bignets photographed on the cover, and I was hoping that I would at a minimum get that treat as a recipe.OH, MAN! Was I pleased! Bignets with tips for frying, and at least 22 of my favorite NOLA dishes! I don't need to buy the Cajun/Creole box dinners any more!To make things even better, there is a a section in the back listing NOLA bars, eats, and experiences for my next visit. Then to put a cherry on top, it has a list of online food sellers for the items that are harder to fins outside of Louisiana. Copyright is 2020, so those venders might still be in business!Words can't describe how delighted I am!Thank you, Mr Boudreaux. :-D

Great recipes, authentic
I have well over 1000 cookbooks in my personal library. I have several Louisiana style cookbooks such as Brennans, and others but really like this cookbook over some others. Recipes are not complicated, but appear to be authentic NOLA style. I have searched many years for a shrimp creole recipe to my liking. The ingredients seem to be what I was seeking in this specific recipe. Excellent book, nice photos, simple but good recipes on those that I have tried so far. I would recommend if your looking for easy to follow, not time consuming NOLA recipes.

Great Resource For Your Favorite Cajun Recipes and a Few New Ones
What a wonderful find! This has references to many of New Orleans Signature restaurants and their most famous recipes, plus some new takes on well loved favorites. I am delighted with this handy and easy to follow guide to many of the Cajun dishes I have enjoyed for years. A special find is Crawfish Monique, a dish I know as Crawfish Monica (the difference is explained), my favorite non music takeaway from the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival that I have been privileged to attend in 2003 and 2018. A treasured new addition to my cookbook resources.

Would have liked some pictures
I've always been curious of New Orleans food so I bought this recipe book to try and make mine since I don't have access to any.The recipes look good and easy to follow and there is even a bit of history in there which is greatly appreciated. But there are almost no pics and that is kit only appealing to the eye but it also kinda guides you as to what the food should look like. So I've had to look up images of the food so I know what we are talking about.
