PEL : Lady Audley's Secret

Poor Quality pages
The cover design and content of the book are undeniably alluring but the paper quality of the cover and pages is extremely poor and low grade and extremely thin. I expected more from the product since it is a penguin publication but nevertheless, the story and content make the purchase a worthy one.

Victorian Romp
We live 5 mins walk from the house where this was written and clearly set ... Ingatestone Hall Essex. I loved the book - a fun romp and I could picture exactly where the author was writing about. Love it.

What is Lucy's secret?
Ace sensation fiction! Who is Lucy Audley? What is her secret? Is she a murderess? Did she set fire to the pub? Did she bump off her first husband? Why does her portrait show her looking like a fiend in hell? It's Victorian, it's careful to stay on the right side of the moral issues, but it's a great read. One for a long train journey or a night in if you're a fan of Victorian melodrama.

Avoid this print-to-order edition. Terrible quality with missing or blurred and unreadable pages. Can't even get the author's name right - she published as Mary Elizabeth Braddon, not Maxwell (which was her real married name). Appears to be volume 2 of a three volume set, though this isn't clear until you see the inside title page. I thought I was buying a good quality hardback instead of a cheap paperback. Returning this to Amazon and ordering a cheap (but much better quality) paperback version instead. The story gets excellent five star reviews from those who have read and reviewed elsewhere. I have only given this edition one star because zero is not an option.

Fun
Text is good size; story is intriguing and fun. Good for anyone studying this novel or just someone who likes fast-paced drama and nineteenth century literature
