Great book for teaching.
Lots of great information about the origins of our customary measurement system. Good pictures that illustrate bigger more abstract measurements like a mile. My students in the first through third grade enjoyed it and as an adult I was fascinated by the information.

For Good M
Definitely a good supplemental book for math educators. There is one conversion error right at the beginning of the book but the material is good and informative without being overly wordy or confusing. The pictures make the book.

Great Resource: Two Significant Errors Found
I loved the book. I also found two significant errors. On the page dealing with light speed, the text states ". . . yet its light (from the sun) takes just 18 minutes to get here"; it takes 8.2 minutes. On the page dealing with area, the text states "There are approximately 2.5 hectares in an acre". There are 2.47 acres in a hectare! Other than that, the book was informative and a good resource for kids. Keep the Magic Marker handy when reading this book for the first time.

Informational; educational
This book is great for so many reasons. First, it explains in actual photos-not illustrations-the different terms and forms for measurement. Each term (ex furlong, fathom, league, as well as the usuals: inch, foot, etc) is explained in one to two sentences, including Latin roots which help in remembering the term. My whole family-adults and kids-enjoyed this one.
